Low Heartrate & Calories Recorded for Swimming

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Today was the first time I used my Versa for tracking swimming. I swam continuous laps for 1.5 hours, and it told me I only burned 453 calories in that time, which seems VERY off! Then, after I synced to the app, it showed that my average bpm was 78--which again, seems very wrong considering how vigorous I was swimming. 78 bpm would be just slightly higher than my normal resting.

I've come to the conclusion that the monitor did not correctly record my heart rate while swimming, and this is why the calorie count is so low. Is there any way to fix this? Has anyone else had this issue? I did tighten the versa to my wrist quite a bit when in the pool to keep it from sliding around--could this be part of the problem?

As a side note: When I took the versa for a run yesterday, the calorie count & bpm seemed much more realistic.

Thanks in advance for any help and responses.

Hi, yes it's possible that your readings of calories, etc are wrong due to a too tight band. Next time tryi it with the band as you use to do in normal live. Whenever this does not work, try to reboot your Versa two or three times by pressing and holding the left and right lower keys together untill you see the Fitbit logo appears and then release the buttons. good luck!

Great, thanks so much for your help. I will definitely try a looser band the next time, and see what happens. And thank you for helping me figure out how to reset the versa--I was trying to figure this out earlier today, and couldn't, so thanks for clearing that up.

Hi Again: So an update...unfortunately, the tracker still seems to be showing a very low heart rate and calorie burn during swimming. I wore it more loosely on my wrist, and restarted it. The stats for my 50 minute swim yesterday (laps continually), was 88 bmp, and only 239 calories burned. Again, this doesn't seem right at all. Any other suggestions??

I also noticed that it doesn't seem to recognise my butterfly strokes at all--only back, breast, and freestyle.

AND lastly...it seems to always get off when counting my laps. I have it set to vibrate every 200 meters--so because that's an even number, and I swim all my sets in groups of 4 laps, it should always vibrate & notify me at the same end of the pool. But, somewhere in the middle of my swim, it usually starts notifying that I've met each 200 meter set at the other end of the pool, so it must be adding on a lap or more somewhere? Does that make sense?

Thanks in advance for your help, I really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I feel your pain and frustration.  I received the Vera as a gift and was beyond excited to start tracking exercises, sleep, etc.  All the stuff the Versa is supposed to offer.  But alas, I am running into the same issues you are, and they seem to be very common from reading these forums.  I do high intensity interval training and the Versa is waaay too low on registering my BPMs.  I'm talking anywhere from 20 - 50 BPMs off.  I've cross-checked my pulse manually several times, and granted that isn't ideal, but they should certainly at least be close.  The watch also didn't track my workout today, which had me fuming.  It's all very disheartening considering the steep price my girlfriend paid.

But I digress.  Based on what I've read, the only recommendations are to make it tighter and place it higher on your arm, up to 4 finger lengths.  Another suggestion I read is to place the Versa on your other wrist but leave the settings the same.  So, if you have it on your non-dominant wrist and have the setting set as such, put it on your dominant wrist and leave the settings as is.  I have yet to try this but figured I would offer it up as advice.

Many thanks for your suggestions on the Versa 😞 So sad that we can't use it as much as we intended. Fingers crossed that maybe they come up with a good update soon, so that we swimmers can enjoy it equally as much as the other sports offered. Thanks again!
