Low calorie burn during yoga

Hi,

I just got back from a one hour Vinyasa yoga class during which I activated the yoga exercise on my Versa. Now it turns out I only burnt 111 calories, which is highly disappointing. Earlier today I burnt 130 calories with a 20 minute walk. I've been told that Vinyasa should cause a higher calorie burn.
Has something gone wrong with my exercise app on my versa or is this rather correct?

Thanks!

You don't say how long your class was, but the key is your heart rate.  Look at your heart rate during the class to judge calorie burn rate; compare that to heart rate while walking.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
I did: it took one hour.

My heart rate wans't particulary high during the class. I was in the fat burn zone for only 9 minutes.

I don't know why this is, since it was a rather intense class and it felt like I really did an effort.

If Vinyasa yoga truely has this low effect, I will probably not do it again.

I can't judge but, there certainly can be health benefits other than the number of calories burned.

Of course there can be.
Except that I'm specifically searching for sports to burn calories.

Walking and running work just fine but yoga doesn't seem to do the trick.

Was it set to yoga on your exercise app?  Yoga isn't one of the default settings, but you can add it.

Thanks for your reply.
I know. I added it. And it was set to yoga the entire course.

That's flow yoga, right?

@SunsetRunner  what was the average HR reported for the yoga, and what was it for the walk? That usually tells part of the story.

Indeed, it is flow yoga.
Well, my average heart rate during yoga was only 81 bpm indeed. And this is rather odd. A simple walk can raise my heartbeat up tot more than 100 bpm but planking and standing almost upside down on my hands for one hour while it's 30 degrees celcius doesn't have any effect on my heartbeat.

Hi!  Don’t give up on Yoga…. No idea where they came up with those calories!  Look at the calories burned after the class- this is the accurate number.  You also need to consider the muscle you’re building during these classes… muscle burns calories while resting.  Lastly, yoga is mind, body, spirit- you’re practice “exercises” threefold 🙂
