My versa doesn’t register activity when I’m riding on my magnetic bike trainer. Anyone else experienced this?

You say "register activity".  Do you mean auto-detect it as an exercise session?  That would be common for any exercise bike whee your arms are not moving.  I doubt it has anything to do with the magnetic part.  Note that indoor bike/spinning is not on the list of auto-recognized activities.  If you use the Exercise App, it will get recorded.
