Hi, so I tend to march around my living room and sometimes will march in place for like 10 mins or so to like watch the tv or something. When I do stop and march in place, it doesn't always track my steps, and I can't figure out why. I am not doing anything different. Like sometimes it is like oh you took like 20 steps in the 10 mins you were marching in place and then other times it's like the amount I would get if I went on a walk for 10 mins. Also sometimes I walk in general (like 20 plus steps) and it just doesn't pick them up... but then I will walk back the same way I came from and it will track the normal amount of steps it would have been going the one direction. I have tried restarting my fitbit. I also changed my clock face thinking maybe that would fix it cause I saw on someone else's post about something that sometimes that can mess with steps. Anyone have any ideas why it's doing this?

Keep in mind the Fitbit is on your wrist. It doesn't really know what your legs are doing. It infers steps from arm movement, as in the normal swinging of your arms when walking. When marching in place, note what your arms are doing. If you let them just hang at your side, you might not get steps; but if you swing your arms with the steps, then you should get them.
But also keep in mind, that doesn't affect calories burned; they are based on heart rate, so you will get credit for calories burned by raising your heart rate, even if you are not registering steps.

Oh, I know it goes by arm motions (I found that out when I realized I didn't get steps pushing a cart when I first got my fitbit). I am moving my arms.
