Morning calorie count value after 8+ hours in charging dock

I put my Versa SE in the charging dock at 11pm last night with ~2,800 calories showing in the counter. I'm assuming the accumulated calories of ~2,800 are "zeroed out" in the device for the next day at midnight.

When I woke up at 7:30am to put the tracker on I noticed that the calories counter was showing a value of ~500. Is the device estimating my calorie burn during the night even when I'm not wearing it? I nearly always wear the tracker to bed for sleep data capture, except when charging is required.

Those are your BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories you are always burning by being alive.  They are credited even when you are not wearing the tracker.
