Hi there @PamSandwich. It's great to welcome a newcomer to the community. Appreciate you sharing the issue with your Versa 2.

If it keeps prompting you to connect to your Spotify app, consider changing the shortcut on your Versa 2. Navigate to the Settings app, and select the Left Button option to change the activated feature when holding the button.

Hi @PamSandwich - in addition to what @EstuardoFitbit has provided, there is perhaps an under used feature on the Versa 2.

Pull down on the watch face once and then again and tap the music function.

This is a system function which allows you to control any music and change volume without stopping whatever else is happening on the watch without needing the Spotify premium account.

It can require a proper watch setup first if not already done.
