My Versa 2 is overcounting steps

My Fitbit just started to widely over count steps and I am not sure why.  It happened with my old fitbit then I replaced it but this one is only a year and a half old and I do not want to buy another one.  How can I fix this?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @SunsetRunner.

Thank you for the information provided.

When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, your Fitbit Versa 2 may add some steps. The dominant wrist setting decreases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any over counting of steps when your body is not moving. Your dominant hand is the one you use for writing and eating. You can find this setting if you go online to fitbit.com > click the gear icon in the upper right corner > Settings >  Devices > Versa 2 > Wrist.

For instructions on how to negate the extra data please visit this article and open the menu "How do I delete steps and floors in the Fitbit app?".

You can find information about how accurate are Fitbit devices here.

Hope this helps.

Hello this was not helpful. I am getting over 200 flights of stairs a day and I can guarantee that I am not doing that many steps. It started three days ago and my old fit bit did this. I had to get a new one as it was not accurate. Now this one is only 1.5 years and I have taken care of it. So is there an actual way to fix the over counting stairs or not. It’s there like a reboot or something or software upgrade?
