Are there problems with fitbit since the update which include the open screen being stuck on an ad with a code? How do I fix this?

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear you are having an issue with your Versa 2. Have you tried restarting it? If not, this is always a great first step in troubleshooting. Hold down the button for 10+ seconds until the screen goes dark and the Fitbit logo appears. You may need to try this is a couple of times, but fingers crossed it clears up the issue.
