My Versa is not tracking my entire exercises.

I’ve had a Fitbit versa for two nights now and have tried two runs and a bike ride. On all occasions, the exercise app closes halfway through and doesn’t track the entire exercise.

I caught it happen once half way through and saw the Fitbit symbol appear on the screen. 
really frustrating as using it for running was the key reason I wanted one.
