My steps are declining on my Versa when sitting

I just purchased my Versa yesterday and today is my first day wearing it. I have noticed that when I am sitting my steps are declining. Ex. I would have 299 steps then sit down and the steps would change to 79. Has anyone else had this problem? If so how to I fix this.
