I had the Versa on the charger base and when it finished charging it showed false steps for today when of course I did not have it on. Yesterday similar issue where in that case had it on and all of sudden around 8:30 pm the step count jumped to another false number by displaying an additional 13,000 steps. Considering returning and sticking to my Charge HR 2 for alittle while longer.

My versa is also doing that tho not as excjted as yours. Yesterday as fine but this morning I was congratulated on 250 steps 10 minutes after I got out of bed,  it then jumped suspiciously again within a short time so I SAT and waited and watched and it jumped 50/60 steps right in front of me.

Not giving me a great deal of faith in this device ... my first fitbit. If issues continue I will be returning also.

I don't seem to be getting phone notifications either tho may be operator error and a setting wrong so benefit of the doubt atm, see how it goes.

Best Answer

Hmmm. I'm getting the phone and text notifications...it just seems to be the steps that are completely off for some reason.

It's good to know that I am not the only one experiencing the "extra step count".  I do love the Fitbit devices as this would be my third one. I guess maybe a few bugs need to be worked out with the Versa.

I have reset mine tonight, not sure if you know how, you hold back button and bottom right until you see the logo. I actually ended up alsoshutting down and restarting later just for good measure. 😊 to do that go to settings and I think its under 'about' options.

I am hoping this will sort any problems, see how I go tomorrow.

I have had the same mystery steps.

1) I got my versa from FitBit, tried to set it up, but it was a dud. That one is already on it's way back to FitBit.

2) I got another versa from Best Buy, this one set up like a breeze. I was very happy, and left it on its charger to finish charging. I put it on at around 8/pm, and put it to primary device, and turned off my AltaHR.  As I was going to bed, I thought, lets take a look.  and discovered an additional 8k steps!

I then reset.  and saw an additional 300 steps.

I reset again, and while sitting, saw it add another 50.

I took it off, put it on the table, and moved the Alta to a different part of the house (neither were on)

I went back to the Versa, and did that whole "reset 3 times".  and lo- apparently I was walking because there was another 100 or so.

So...

I believe the majority of these devices must work, simply because of volume, if they were all bad, this forum would have many more people, and there would be a recall.  Since I don't see a greater number than usual on this forum, and there isn't a recall, I think that perhaps the majority are ok.

However, number one is already on it's way back, and number two is going back to BestBuy on Saturday, where I hope to try some of the Garmin products.

I have been a FitBit user since the Charge HR (I remember when that came out, there were issues then too).  But, I have become attached to the idea of a watch/wallet/music. I have proven myself willing to put out the $$...  so now I will see what else that may do for me.

I am very grateful I hadn't yet given away my Alta HR, since that works like a dream.

I can't even guess if this step issue is a hardware or software issue, so I wouldn't know where or how to try to address it. This is simply too much error/glitch/beta type issues for me to keep the device.

@tamara37

I also have the ghost steps.

I ordered my FitBit on first release date, and got it on the 16th, ... that one wouldn't set up, so it is on it's way back, returned to FitBit.

I purchased a second from BestBuy. The second Versa set up like a dream, and actually was recognized by my computer!  Awesome!  I was very happy. I put it on last night around 8pm, after setup and it's first full charge.

I sat down and read a book.  I got up, poured myself a cuppa tea, and returned to my cozy chair and continued to read.  When it was time for bed, I checked... and lo!!!

7-8K more steps!

So sat down, took it off, and reset.  50 more steps.

Magic Reset, (resetx3), another 100 or so

walk away and double check and move my AltaHR to another floor..  return...  another 200 or so.

So, still sitting on the table, I turn my chair to the computer, and remove the device.

It is back in it's packaging, and will be returned to BestBuy over the weekend, (where I may look at other devices)

I wrote this once before, but the moderator or system blocked it.

I don't know why, but I post again to let you know, you are not alone in this strange device behavior!

Best of luck to you.

I really think that we must be an unfortunate minority, simply because if all of them were bad, this forum would have many more people, and there would be a recall of some kind. Since that hasn't been the case, I think we just got unfortunate. That said, I tried twice. I am unwilling to try again.

I am glad the AltaHR works like a dream. I will take my time finding out which competitors device I want. (I want the wallet, and the music would be nice.)

Best to you.

I woke up after charging mine last night and it had 48K steps... Does anyone have a solution for this?

Best Answer

Hi, no solution yet...hopefully maybe Fitbit will do an update to correct the issue.  I tried the reset yesterday but that also added more steps then this morning same thing.

I can see two scenarios where this might be happening:

1.) You had the device near a vibrating source such as a fan.  If this is the case, while you can't delete the steps, you might want to consider moving the device tonight if you take it off at night to a place where the vibration source won't be near the tracker.

2.) You just got the Versa yesterday and during the delivery (or pick up if you got it from a store), and it picked up some steps due to the movement.  There is nothing you can really do in this case, as this would be the first day that you had your tracker, so your steps would be a little high anyway.

Neither of those senarious apply to me.

Best Answer

Hi and thanks for the answer/feedback! I did not have it near a vibrating source and when I bought it from the store it did not have any data showing. I will give it a week or so to see how it does and if no solution/software update then back to my Charge HR 2...but still love Fitbit!

Best Answer

@DramaQueenDiva

Nope, neither of those situations apply to the mystery 8k.

1) no steps showing when set up.

2) step count matched the app once it was synced.

3) step count climbed 8k. Not next to a fan, Not in a van, no green eggs and ham.

4) step count climbed when it was off and sitting on a table.  With no fan, no van, and no ham.

5) step count climbed another 100+ after reset, while on a table, still no fan, van, or ham.

so, thanks for the input

If a pedometer counts steps due to an oscillating fan in my neighbors house, it is too sensitive for me.

I can't tell if this is a software issue, or a hardware issue.

I also no longer care.

It is in process of being returned.

I love my AltaHR. It does the job till I find the super watch I am looking for.

Thanks for trying.

On a side note: I would recommend removing a fan as a "valid" excuse for large numbers, it is kind of absurd, and means it will always be high, since people breathe, drink coffee, sit down, or perhaps work in an air conditioned environment, with a fan somewhere in the building. If anything is that sensitive, it won't work for the job of tracking steps or activity.

I have worn the Charge HR, the Blaze with no mystery steps. With this new Versa, this is the first time I have ghost steps while sitting down working on my computer. When I sat down, I had 651 steps. By the time I stood up after roughly 2 hours, I was at 884 steps. There's no fan or anything of that nature nearby. I have owned and worn other Fitbit devices, so I know what I am talking about. Annoying for sure. I would like to see a fix soonest.

@DramaQueenDiva

Going through the FB versa forum, this step count error seems common.

Do you know if there is a fix in the works?

If there is not a fix, please don't post directions to the "trouble shooting" page(s).

Each person has seen and been to the trouble shooting pages.

I would appreciate an honest answer; Is FitBit Aware of this problem? What are they doing to address this problem? What kind of time frame (sprint/epic/whatever) are they working under and expect this to be solved?

An honest answer can also be "I don't know if there is a fix", or "I don't know".

I don't know, but a moderator or Support might know.  It might be worth contacting them.  They usually don't announce things like this, so all I have to go by is what has worked with my Fitbits in the past.

Just saw this thread. I created my a similar one reporting the same problem. Hope they have a reason of explanation (ie, admitting its a real bug) or offer at least a fix. Otherwise its going back to the store.

Oh wow! Hopefully they will find a solution soon! I will give a week or so and if no solution then I am returning the Versa and sticking with using my Charge 2 for a little while longer.
