I just purchased the versa and I had an older phone so I went and upgraded my phone. I was having no issues with syncing on the older phone now I am having issues and they will not sync do I need to remove my device from my fit bit account and reconnect?

There are 2 common problems when people swap to a new phone.
Firstly, if the old phone is still around then it may still have a bluetooth connection to the fitbit in the phone's settings that may be blocking connection to the new phone. Make sure any such connection is removed and power down the old phone.
Secondly, the new phone may not be supported by fitbit. You can check the list of supported devices at www.fitbit.com/devices
