No recent activity for friends ranking

When i go to start a challenge with friends on my Fitbit Versa, it says "NO RECENT ACTIVITY". Why? I read that there is a setting the you can turn on under fitbit.com/settings/personal/friend activity/show activity. I do not have that option on my main page on fitbit.com. 

Please advise.

Sorry @Awesome_one in not following you,  The no recent activity is saying that you haven't had any activity record recently.  This is not about any challenge or friends but about recorded activities, such as a walk,  run,  bike ride,   that you may have recently done.

That is correct. It is not about the challengesIf you are "STARTING " a challenge and you go to select some friends to be in your challenge, the entire list of friends all have "no recent activity" under their names. This is being displayed even if you were just in a challenge with the friends listed and all of you have some walking activity. 
In a precious post you mention or someone from your team that you can turn on a "show me" feature if you go on fitbit.com, select settings under the gear, click on personal information, scroll to the very bottom on the left and it should be something that says friend activity or friends something.  I do not have that option. Please refer back to the post on this forum for the exact verbiage.  
So I am asking...how do I find this function for the Fitbit Versa? 
Yes I can see those same friends weekly activity for their averages if I go into my friend list or community.  
On your forum, several people has had this same issue.

The setting for a  function with friends is not on the fitbit tracker but in your fitbit account settings as you point out. 

The no recent activity message on the Versa is about your recorded activity, not your friends activity.
