I restarted bluetooth on my phone and also Fitbit app, also reinstall Fitbit app and it still doesnt work. Please, can you help me?

I had the same problem... After trying many of the solutions, I was allways getting the same problem after a few days or hours.
I am running Android on a Samsung J6.
Then, I realised that I moved the APP to "external storage" to save some internal space.
Moved it back to internal storage and immediatly the service was up and running, the "service not running" message disapeared.
Hope it works with you guys and girls.

@Altoastral that is a good point. When someone moves an app and things stop working.it is best to move the app back.
Part of the fitbit app gets embedded into the OS and apps like Fitbit have issues intercepting notifications when not in main memory.

I don't know how, notifications started coming.
I didn't perform a single function.
It just happened automatically.

I'm not having any luck. I got the Versa 2 for Christmas. It was sending me notifications until just 2 days ago. Now I can't seem to get anything aside from "get more steps". I've restarted, stopped and cleared (forcing logon again), looked at and changed battery optimization and more. So far, haven't uninstalled and reinstalled the app. May try that next. I'm on Android 7.0 from BLU. Considering it worked for over 2 weeks, I'm not thinking it's an issue with the phone.

I have the same issue with Mi MIX_1
1) I reinstalled app
2) Deleted cache after new install
3) Allow to vibrate on silent
4) Turn on/off/on notifications permissions
5) Given all permissions to app and locked to be always working and also added permission to autostart
6) Battery optimization off
Still not working BUT it was working in past! Stopped after the recent fitbit update, that update was in November or October...
I do not know what to do...

Well, my oddity got better. About an hour (or less) after posting my comment last week my Versa 2 starts buzzing away and suddenly a flood of messages and such came it. It's made it through the weekend still functioning that way. Hadn't done anything more than what was already said. Weird.

About a week later, and it's back. My phone got rebooted last night, and notifications stopped working after that. Not sure why rebooting a phone should kill the way the communication between devices work. It should be expected that one or the other will reboot at some time.
Getting the lovely "Notifications Service not running" and of course the steps have already been done. Redid the clearing Data and Cache. Bluetooth is on. Notifications are set to go. I've run manual sync multiple times. Steps and such all sync. Just can't get Notifications.
My next step might be to fully uninstall the app and reinstall. I really believe this whole thing started for me the last time after my phone was restarted. So something is not handling the phone restarts. Would help if I could pinpoint to a service.

Unistalled and reinstalled the app and it worked for almost 24 hours. Then it stopped again. This can't be a phone issue. Something with the app is not keeping the notification services alive.

Ok, finally got something that was easier and "consistent". I went into my phone's Settings. Searched for Notification Center, and then into "Access to notifications". I turned off the slider bar for FitBit, then turned it back on. It prompts for Allow access "blah, blah, blah... long message" all over again. However, now it works again, where a phone reboot, nor watch reboot did squat. Will it last more than 2 hours? I don't know. I've had to do it twice today already, so something is not sustaining the permission, even when the phone shows it's on.
Hope that helps someone.

Just traveled over the weekend. This included changing time zones on my phone. Initially could not get my Versa 2 to sync after the phone changed, no matter how many times I clicked to sync. After a while, for whatever reason, it finally worked. However, the notifications stopped again. Ended up doing the same thing again, turning the Notifications for FitBit off and on in the Notifications Center. Things started to work again. So far it's been a repeatable process to get it working.
