I have my Versa Lite for less than a week and I am having the same issue. Counts steps while I am riding in the car, sitting and drinking my coffee not moving. It is very frustrating, since this is the main reason I bought it.

Hi @CPennybacker & @Aditi28

Steps are counted off your arm & not leg movements.

Every time you lift your arm up & back down = 1 x step.

It is why you must wear your FitBit on your non dominant wrist.

Blaze, Surge, Ionic and Versa1. I am not a FitBit employee.

@Aditi28 @CPennybacker  Remember all activity trackers will register steps taken even if you're not walking and/or running.  If you're moving your arm the tracker is on, it has the potential of counting as a step.  People are really getting hung up on how accurate these devises are.  There are times you may be walking and carrying something with both hands or pushing a cart or a stroller and you're arm isn't swinging, so no steps are going to be registered.  At the end of the day, I would consider it a wash.  Bear in mind all activities convert to steps.  https://www.pehp.org/mango/pdf/pehp/pdc/step%20conversion%20chart_FFB805BB.pdf
