Pin inside Fitbit Versa band broke off

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The pin head inside my brand new Fitbit Versa broke off and I have tried everything to try to remove it.  I tried tweezers, small scissors and a paperclip.  Nothing works!

Any suggestions?

Fitbit support will not help because I did not purchase the band through Fitbit.

This just happened to my gray limited edition as well but I am just beyond the one year mark so no support 😔 Any luck getting it out yet?

This has also happened my watch. I have it since May.  It seems like a really common issue. Very disappointing that the strap is not more robust. Can the FitBit team advise what to do and how I go about getting it replaced? I don't really want to go at it with a tweezers in case I break it further.

The best and easiest way out of my experience of this happening. Take a bobby pin. Unfold it. Put one part under and pry the bar up. It’s weaker than the bobby pin and bends than u can just slip it out. It’s easier than it sounds. Bobby pin.

I have been using my Fitbit for 5 years and recently purchased a new Versa.  I am satisfied with their support so far as each time when I reported an issue I got a solution.  But this new Versa I bought in June 2019 has a major issue.  After using it for less than 6 months, the band broke off too.  I cannot replace it as the pin fell off.  I chatted with the support, Venessa.  I was told I can use a butter knife to replace it.  It did not work. I was told even though the watch was purchased less than a year, they determined that it is not covered by warranty.  They offered me 40% discount but failed to convince me that there will not be new issue that they will determine to be not covered.  To put in simple words, Versa is not covered adequately by the warranty, so I will postpone my purchase even though that is the only solution now.  Got a simple solution that took me only a few minutes: put Versa aside and recharge my Apple Watch.  No need to risk using a butter knife to detach the band from Versa,  My Apple watch is still working even though I bought it last year!  Now I can happily resume active daily life with a reliable watch.

Use a bobby pin. Works like a charm as my pin always breaks off. Just use a bobby pin. Pop one end underneath ( burn the rubber end of. Only pin first ) than just pull and it works like a charm. I can help u if ur in Calgary ab

Thanks, lindsaysommers.  I am ok for now after recharging my Apple 2 watch which can record my steps. I did not regret switching to Versa special edition in the last 5 months as I learnt more by checking my sleep pattern on top of tracking my running activities. I just wish I could have more knowledge to have basic tools and skills to replace a broken band which I am not prepared for (even though it is still within warranty) before making the purchase.  Without the band the watch is useless to me.

I have the same problem but bobby pin does not work, nor does anything else I have tried. The metal is flush against the plastic and will not budge. Is that the same situation you experienced? Thank you,

Hello,
Yes Fitbit is not very good at assisting. Best thing you can do is take it to a Jewler who will probably remove the pin for free (takes like 2 seconds). Then all you do is replace the pin the strap and youre good to go 🤙🏻

I am pasting my previous answer that worked for me:
I had to use tweezers to get the pin to roll to the spot where the pin
piece broke off and then was able to stick a straight pin in the hole and
press it down to release the spring. I got it off finally!! Yeah!! I did
have extra band pins, so just used one to replace the broken one and I'm
back in business! [image: :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:]

I hope this works for you. (you have to get the pin to roll around to
where it broke off so you can use a straight pin and stick it in that hole
to press down.) Good Luck!

You will unfortunatly have to cut the band off. So i just ripped my silicone band off and than all tbat was left was that straight bar stuck into both sides which than a bobby pin will fit under.

bobby pins sometimes have thick plastic ends. Just burn it quickly and that will come off than the bobby pin will fit underneath the bar and you pull that way

This is not true. Fitbit will support you if purchased from a third party if inside the one year warranty period. I did it when my 6 week old Versa2 died that I bought from HSN. However, note that the replacement (head only) only was warranted for 1 year MINUS the 6 weeks I had it. I think that's poor form for the company and the full warranty should be provided.  Also, another issue is the band. The band came off easily to then be placed on my replacement. BUT, it did not fit. We used Youtube tutorials - 3 of us tried and broke fingernails trying to make it fit. I am a longtime FB user so even though I bought third party, a supervisor authorized a full exchange for the watch. Let's hope the new one works and I never have to remove the band - it is a very poor design. But kudos to the supervisor going above and beyond.

The bands are the worst design ever!  I had not trouble removing it from the defective watch but could NOT get it to fit the new watch head. It simply does not fit and the design is flimsy.  Beware - without the band you FB is useless.

@Angelic13Momma - Were you able to get it resolved? And if so what worked? I also have the broken piece of metal flush with the plastic - the watch just fell off my wrist and I have no idea how the metal pin broke. Most of these solutions do not seem to address the piece of metal flush with the plastic, no movement possible. I have tried everything mentioned on this site and have taken it to two jewelers who were not able to fix. Thank you..

I had this problem. I brought my watch back to the shop and they replaced it under warranty so try that.

Mine did not break. I could not get it to fit the replacement watch head. We tried YouTube and our friends. The bank too large for the watch head and of poor design. I finally raised heck with Fitbit and they agreed to replace everything and allow me to return everything I had. They were very difficult to deal with. I will not buy Fitbit again.

Yes I did.  Use something very hard such as a nail nipper to pull or even cut the plastic wrapped around the pin and finally the pin out of the watch.  Be very careful do not hurt yourself as the surface area is tiny.  There is a chance that the watch will be scratched too.  But since Fitbit refused to replace it even though it is still under warranty, there was no other option.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me!  The pin side opposite the spring broke off inside the watch and now I am struggling to figure out how to get it out.

OK I have been trying to remove the band off my fitbit versa and have pulled in co workers to help and none of us can get this band off. I love my band but I have a feeling the only way to get this off is to break it. Any suggestions, I have tried everything already posted and nothing is working.

The bands on the Versa 2 are a very poor design. I finally got mine off because my first V2 was faulty and I needed to get the band off and put it on the new watch they sent me. It didn’t fit. We tried everything, watched YouTube videos - nothing it just was too wide for the second watch. Finally after many phone calls they allowed me to send everything back for a full replacement. Maybe that will come by Xmas but won’t hold my breath.

Did you manage to get the pin removed?

Mine broke off but no luck getting it out and I am trying not to break the casing in the attempt to remove the pin.
