Plane Travel East to West Reduced Daily Calories

I've been a Fitbit user for 4 years now. (and have been traveling from the East to West coast a few times each year).  Only with my new Versa did I notice that when going from ET to PT via plane, the calories for the day would reduce upon syncing my Fitbit (on landing).

Flight today was at 12:25pm ET and landed at 3pm PT.  During flight I did not open the Fitbit app.  Upon landing, noted my calories via my Versa Fitbit were at 1448.  After syncing, Fitbit app reduced the calories to1248!  No steps or any other data was affected.   I reset the Versa but that did not change the reduction.

I read on the boards its best to shut off the automatic time update - but do you just keep that off forever?  Won't it just erase calories when you turn it back on?   I've never had this issue prior with any other Fitbit because would always enjoy the extra 3 hours meant more calories burnt for the day.  Please advise!

@FitKim13 I wouldn't worry too much. You 'lost' 200 kcal from your BMR allowance probably because Fitbit thought you suddenly had extra hours to go until midnight (due to the time difference). I don't think there is a good way around it as you will have more than 24 hours on a day you travel East-West. I always keep automatic timezone ON.
