I tried to use my Versa with Fitbit pay today at CVS, and it did not work. It would not even vibrate. The clerk said they accept Samsung pay and they have the giant wireless reader attachment on top of the machines. But then the clerk said that those didn't work and that I had to use my watch near the magnetic strip reader part of the credit card machine. Hmm, tried and it didn't work.
Later I found out that CVS had turned off NFC from their readers and they are only accepting Samsung pay via MST which is an older magnetic technology that doesn't require new machines and just tricks them into thinking you used your magnetic card (simplified explanation). CVS, in my area, have not turned on their NFC readers yet and don't accept Apple or Google pay (yet) since those require NFC.
Just an FYI for anyone who is confused as to why someone says they accept Samsung pay but your phone or watch won't work. They might be using MST instead of NFC readers.

@S1930 I hope you're doing well! Thank you very much for sharing this information. It is really important and I am sure it will help many members in the same situation. As you said if they have their NFC turned off then you won't be able to use Fitbit pay and this explanation will clarify that it isn't the user or the device's fault it is just that the payment option isn't available at that location. Thank you again for sharing.
I'll be around!
