Samsung Note 8 Issues With New Versa 2, and all prior Fitbit devices?

Hi Fitbit,

Please do not send me the link to the why my device doesn't connect, I've tried them all already. Please see below. I also emailed: android@fitbit.com

I have had non-stop issues on my Note 8. I have done everything to make my Fitbit Ionic to work and today my brand new Fitbit Versa 2. I can't set up the new Versa 2 at all. It won't find the device, however I see it under bluetooth. In the past I have gotten the Ionic to work but it almost never syncs and I never am able to connect it for my messages. Now this brand new Versa 2 has issues on my Note 8.

I set it up successfully on my work phone which is a Moto Z2 play and it was beyond seamless and has literally no issues. The same thing can be said for the Ionic and Alta that I have both work seamlessly on my work phone.

I have read so many articles about the Note 8 not paring with many Fitbit devices, but the Versa 2 is brand new. What is the problem? I have uninstalled, reinstalled the app. I have turned on and off bluetooth multiple times, I have reset my phone multiple times, and I've hard reset the new Versa2. I'm assuming it's an issue with the Note 8 at this point since I have the issue on all my devices. Please note my bluetooth works fine on my airpods, and through my car and many other devices so it's not my bluetooth.

Again besides the Versa 2 I got today I also have an Alta and Ionic also have a fitbit which never sync either but at least it shows up occasionally but I never get text messages or anything else.

Any suggestions?

I’m sorry to say. @TimD7291 , that your Note 8 is not a compatible device. The problem is not with your Fitbit devices. It is with your phone. The Moto Z is a compatible devices, which explains why it works.

@SunsetRunner what do you mean? My phone has worked with the Ionic and Alta during setup. Do you just mean on the Versa 2? If so will it ever be a compatible device?

Can you elaborate more on why it's not a compatible device. The note 8 is an incredibly new phone and it's mostly OS that dictates compatibility so does that mean there's a large number of android users effected by this?

Fitbit doesn't have information listed anyway, so they basically con'ed me into upgrading to a Versa2?

  • I am having the same problem with my Samsung Note 9.  I have tried uninstslling, reinstalling, adding, etc.  I've read firms  tried help and it recognized my device once to partially set up on the phone and that's it.  I went to the web site to see if it would be different and I keep getting "oops, were having an internal server issue, try again later" message.  It's later  how much later do they mean?

@TimD7291 - Sorry for the confusion. It was my understanding that your problems occurred with the Note 8 but that you were able to get things to work with your work phone, the Moto Z. If a phone is listed as a compatible device, it means Fitbit has tested the functionality and determined that it is compatible with all Fitbit devices. If a phone is not on the list, it means Fitbit has not tested it (yet) and cannot guarantee the phone will work with Fitbit devices or that all the Fitbit features will be available. The list is focused on phone compatibility, not individual Fitbit devices. We do not have a timeline for which phones Fitbit will be testing, or when. There are a lot of phones out there!

Some people have successfully set up Fitbit devices to phones not on the list by making sure the Android phone is At OS 7 or greater.  And also verifying that they are on the latest version of the Fitbit app. Bluetooth has also been a problem at times. I’ve personally found that it is best to set up a Fitbit device in a room with no other Bluetooth devices.

My wife's Versa 2 will not get messages from her Pixel 2 XL (Android).

Hey Fitbit - how about you fix these comparability issues. Remember all the issues you were having with the bands?

I waited for online chat support, he had me go into the app settings and force close the app, then reinstall the app.  That worked, but I've had to force close it a couple of times when it gets stuck.  The getting stuck is still a problem though. Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

I'm having the same issues. I called Fitbit tech support, and was told the Versa 2 doesn't work properly with the Note 8. He said I should set it up with my tablet and accept the fact that when I'm out with my phone I won't get notifications...what a joke!  Of course, you don't learn this until after you purchase the watch, Fitbit really dropped the ball on this one!

So why is the  Note 8 not compatible when it was previously?

This was an expensive way to find out that the Fitbit is not compatible with my Note 8, but it will be one that ensures I will never buy another Fitbit!
