Screen Wake isn't working on my Versa 3

I just "upgraded" from versa 2 (because it quit holding a charge and you cannot replace the battery) and I really do not like it. The screen doesn't wake up on motion (yes, I set the option to that) and I end up having to tap it 2 or 3 times before I can even see the time. Plus, the battery runs out every other day and I am not using apps, have a fairly basic free clock face. what gives? I don't want to have top charge it every other day or have to use 2 hands to tell the time.
