Screenwake: set to manual not working

Setting the screen wake option to Auto works as expected (a bit too senstive though), but setting it to manual doesn't seem to work. The screen still turns on when I move my wrist.

Un-acceptable!

Hi @MrGlenn,

As far as I can tell, it's working as designed. The manual setting prevents the wrist turn from starting the screen on. Taps to the screen or the band where it meets the screen, as well as the buttons, will also wake the device.

I’m having the same problem. The screen is still turning on even when set to manual mode. It seemed to work okay for the first couple weeks when I had the device, but now seems to turn on so often that I’ve just been keeping it in manual mode all the time. Very annoying, especially at night when it lights up as I’m getting up to go to the bathroom, or when I’m in a dimly lit theater.

@davgu3Very well put. Manual mode does not work as one would think it should! Very annoying and sorry. .but surely you've got developers that can do better job than that, Fitbit.

I am also having the problem of the screen not opening when I rotate wrist to my face. Is there a setting to adjust?

I have the same problem. I keep my watch set to manual all the time now because it’s so sensitive. It still bothers me that it wakes at the slightest bump or vibration. Sometimes, I’ve seen the screen wake and there’s no way it could have been bumped. Fitbit should come up with and update to make manual mode only wake the screen with a button press. I’ve owned 3 different Fitbit models over the last 4 years and this is the first one that I regret buying for this reason.

It's very disappointing that Fitbit has not released a new firmware update in almost two months despite all the reported problems

Do you know if they have dedicated support team that takes care of complaints/suggestions/bug reports?

I don’t know. Other than these forums, I haven’t found any way to contact them for tech support.

It is a design flaw, clearly one should be able to set the watch to manual screen wake-up and not have it waking up at the slightest movement. Fitbit, - how about you just fix the tech so it works for your paying customers?

I have had "screen wake" set to automatic for two months and I think the watch wakes about one out of five times which is annoying, but I lived with it.  My wife complained that my watch was waking at night and the light was bothering her, so I set screen wake to manual.  Guess what?  The screen continues to wake up at night.  I can't win either way.  I voted for this to be fixed.  I suggest you do also!

I have the same problem. Set in manual and the screen goes on multiple times a minute and wakes me up at night! Im thinking of returning it because i wear it 24/7 and this is driving me crazy 😞

There are 3 pages or more of posts regarding this but no updates on this issue (also the one with turning off fitbitpay).

Only consolation is that I’m not the only one woken and blinded by my wrist in mu sleep or when i get up to go to the bathroom. Kind of defeats the purpose of measuring how well I sleep when one of the main causes of disruption is the very device that’s supposed to track it. There should be a support group for bright screen sleep deprived versa users 🤦🏻‍:male_sign:

Thank you for calling a spade a spade. That is just what it is - the manual option does not function as it should. All other ways to justify hand movement, vibrations, etc, just don’t cut it. I really wish Fitbit Versa would just solve this problem.

Fitbit, just exchange my versa for a smart watch! Because this is a dumb a** watch. PLEASE! NEED SLEEP AND PRIVACY!

I'm so glad you posted this!  I'm having the same issues!  Sometimes at night I want to just pull my watch off and throw it across the room.  The light comes on constantly when I move (in manual) and it disturbs my sleep by waking me up!  I don't understand the point of manual if it comes on with movement.  I thought you were supposed to have to tap the screen to get it to work that way.  I don't see any real difference form auto and manual, its super annoying and I'm about ready to return it for this reason alone.  I hope they figure it out and fix it!

For those of you who have been having issues with the watch waking you up at night, I've cut out a 2x2 square of black electrical tape, I put it on the watch at night and take it off in the morning ( a black sock works too). That way the watch doesn't wake me up at night and it actually doesn't wake up cause I've noticed the battery has improved.

I know its ridiculous, but I guess nobody ever actually tried sleeping with this product before they put it in the shelves.

I am still having this issue.  My screen gets woken all the time and drains the battery.  Even worse, it gets woken during workouts and pauses my fitbit in the middle of a workout!  When will this be fixed as it's very frustrating?

I upgraded to fibit os 3 a couple of days ago.  The new watch firmware appears to have resolved the screen wake issue for me.  I have not seen the screen come on without pressing the watch button for the past two nights.  An early Christmas gift!
