Sea Swimming with Versa

I do a fair bit of sea swimming and my fit bit Versa doesn’t track the distance correctly. I’ve just completed a 5km swim and it said I swam 550m for 20 minutes on versa while I was in swim mode. The app said I swam 1900m for 40 mins when I actually swam 5km in 1 hour 20mins. It’s still under guarantee so wonder should I take it back? Has this happened to anyone else sea swimming?

The Versa does not have a built in GPS so it relies on laps. In a pool you would be doing laps and turning around to do the next lap and the trackers picks that up. In open water there is no way to really know how far you went.

Thanks for that. Very disappointing to be honest. It’s a pity it doesn’t say this on the box. I don’t swim in pools so will have to return it and get something else 😢

Do not take the Versa in water.

We have two dead versas after swimming in a kiddie pool weds night. Fitbit is acting like its purely coincidental that two of us now have dead trackers within hours of swimming.

Definitely not swimproof.
