I used to own a fitbit charge 2 till it just died after 5 months. I'm tempted to buy versa as am looking for a good tracker for running and swimming. As it doesn't have built in GPS and if I didn't take my phone on a run how accurate is the step count? Also does it track swim laps accurately as I had a samsung gear fit 2 pro which always added extra laps?

I have a Versa and love it. It is my favourite tracker of the 6 or so I have owned. I swim and it is excellent on counting laps (I make sure I do my turns so that the Versa can recognise them). It very occasionally misses a lap, but this is rare.
Running with your versa the step count should be very accurate. You dont need GPS to get a good step count, but if you want accurate distance (rather than one based on number of steps multiplied by step count) then you need GPS

On paper the choice is easy : Versa!! But in practice it is a difficult call, especially now that Charge 2 are relative cheap (and yes they definitively last way longer than 5 months!!). For exercises I swear by Charge 2, for me it is just so much more accurate. But for day-to-day life where accuracy doesn't matter all that much (?) clearly the Versa is a huge winner. Note: surely not everyone will agree with me, and also note that a lot of people report all kinds of issues with the Versa [I have pretty much none]
