Sleep Stages Missing

Hey, I've had my Fitbit since Monday and it logs my sleep but not the sleep stages? I have removed the app on my phone and re-installed it, re added my Fitbit (twice) and changed the sleep time started (read this online but no luck!). Any ideas would be great!

Any reply from on the sleep stages. I have been having the same problem for awhile also. I have tried all the things mentioned without luck. Hoping you had better news.

@MsPam it doesn't seem like I have had a response from the moderator - just for clarity could you let us know if it is the App, .com dashboard or the actual device (ie Versa or Lite) that you are receiving this issue on as it seems there is a little confusion across the thread about where the issue lies

@MarcoGFitbit Please respond with a reply to my last post and an update to this current enquiry

Many Thanks

Kind Regards

I have spoken with customer service 5 times.  They simply state that is is a bug.  There is nothing they can do and are sorry. I get REM 3 days and then none for up to 2 months.

I noticed when I do not go into the app and click "start sleep now" and then make sure to synch in the morning I get the more in depth sleep information.  But when I use the app to start the sleep I get the more general information.  Now I just go to bed, I don't do anything extra.

Hello @MsPam and @Mrstk4205 thanks for joining the Fitbit Community. It's nice to see you too @ashwolve and @Lyndiesel, I hope you're doing well.

First of all, I would like to apologize for the delay in the response. Note that if you tap on "Begin Sleep Now" from the Fitbit app, you will only get simplified sleep as this will override the sleep tracked by your Fitbit device.

Additionally, if you're still having trouble with Sleep Stages, I would like to suggest you to restart your Versa by pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. You can also try the following:

  • Wear your Versa on your other wrist when sleeping.
  • Change your sleep tracker form normal to sensitive or vice-versa from the Device Settings page in the online Dashboard.

Keep in mind that this issue is mostly related to your device and not the app itself. The app only gives you insights on why your Sleep Stages were not recorded correctly on an specific day. Thanks for your patience and understanding, give this a try and let us know how it goes.

@MarcoGFitbit  Hi and Thank you for your update - is there any reason why you do not get the same information from manual starting sleep to leaving it to auto - recognition, is this a bug that will be sorted out in the next device software update or is this another thing that customers will have to wait unreasonable lengths of time to be rectified or for the functionality to be upgraded so all ways of commencing the feature will result in the same read outs?

I only came across this from a previous issue I was involved in so is it just Versa/lite that's effected or is it all devices with the manual sleep function

im doing very well thanks and hope that you understand this is not directed at you but through frustration on reporting issues that are seemingly being looked into but very little results seem to emerge (across the board)

Kind Regards

Hello @ashwolve I hope you're doing well, thanks for taking the time to reply.

I appreciate you have come back and posted your question. Please keep in mind that when you manually start your sleep from the Fitbit app (with the Begin Sleep button), the information coming from your Fitbit device will be replaced by the information from the app. As the app does not have heart rate tracking, necessary for your device to detect Sleep Stages, the log will be simplified.

I understand where you're coming from and that this situation might be frustrating sometimes. When a device is not tracking Sleep Stages correctly, we recommend restarting your device, then wear it a bit upper on your wrist so the device can get a constant heart rate reading. Other thing that helps is wearing the device on your other wrist, so you might want to try this as well.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, give this a try and let us know how it goes.

In regards to detailed sleep log (which I have not been getting) I didn’t wear it Thursday and it showed all stages of sleep including REM!

So what do you hit then? Add sleep log? Or just not hit anything?

Hit the plus button at the bottom then hit the sleep moon button. You’ll see it.

Hello. My new Fitbit Versa (replaces my old Fitbit Versa that stopped working) had been recording sleep stages accurately for the past several days I've had it. This morning I see it shows sleep, but does NOT show sleep stages. My heart rate WAS monitored; I see my heart rate throughout the night was tracked.
Yes, I slept more than 3 hours.

Yes, there was a consistent heart rate. Positioning is just fine on my wrist.

No, I did not turn on the "begin sleep now" option --- I let it auto-track, just as I have for years.

Yes, my battery was full charged (above 90%).

App: this morning I checked for app updates and see there was one July 23. I updated it. However, it seems the sleep tracking would've stopped working before last night if it was an app issue for the past few days.
Restart: Yes, I've hit restart this morning since identifying the lack of sleep stage issue.

What would be the cause?

I have 2 Versas.  They both misbehave as follows.  I let Versa decide when I am sleeping.  In the morning, it will give me basic sleep details.  If I delete the sleep log, and manually enter the start time and an earlier end time, I will get the detailed stats.  I can continually edit the end time little by little until, eventually, the stats go away and it goes back to basic sleep information.  This is very frustrating.  I don't understand why it can only do 5-6 hours of stats, and then lose them for the last 2-3 hours.

What a farce!  This issue has been going on for TWO years!  And the same replies from moderators and fitbit "it's being worked on".  Most companies would already be out of business.  Fitbit ONLY survives because Google is buying them.

I read your post and did not use the start sleep and got the same results. It worked! I got sleep score and stages. Thanks for the tip!
