The Versa is primarily a fitness tracker. It also tells the time and alerts you to notifications on your phone, plus a few other cool things like playing music, tracking with GPS (via the phone) etc. With some phones you can use the Versa to reply to texts in a limited fashion, I believe. However, mostly you get notifications from the phone of texts, appointments, incoming calls etc. It doesn't record voice or receive voice commands.
If someone just wants a smartphone and doesn't care about tracking for fitness, there would be other purpose-made smart watches with different capabilities.
The Versa shines as a general purpose tracker with some very nice add-ons.
