Hi I'm looking to change to the fitbit versa special edition. It says it stores 300 songs from Spotify or a music app. I'm wondering does this mean I can listen to Spotify while I'm out running without bringing my phone with me? Or will I still need my phone nearby

Hi, and welcome to the Community!
The Spotify app on the Versa only lets you control what's playing in Spotify on your phone so you'll need to take your phone when running. There's more info on this at https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1976/#spotify
And there's more on loading music at: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2251/

Thank you for your reply. This is the versa special edition and it says it can store 300 songs so what is the difference in the ones that store the songs and ones that don't? Eg the versa lite doesn't store songs but special edition does

The 300 songs you can download are music files that you own, such as MP3 files.
As it says in that help file:
"The music and podcast file types you can download to your watch depend on whether you use a PC or a Mac. Note that some older songs may not transfer due to copyright protections (known as DRM encryption).
PC:
Mac:
The difference with the Lite version of the Versa is that is has no ability to store any music.
If you want to compare other features of the various models, there's a useful overview on Wiki:

Yes, if you own the music (and the MP3 file has no DRM protection) then you can store it on your fitbit and listen to it when running without your phone.
