Stair climber.. why doesn't it count as floors?

I was so excited to upgrade from my Charge 2 to my Vera.. and it's been such a pain so far! Besides the syncing issues, i'm really disappointed that when i'm in "stair climber" exercise mode, it doesn't count my steps very well, and it also doesn't count them towards my floors. Nothing worse than doing 35 floors of stairs, but fitibit only registering them as steps

It uses an altimeter and that needs to see you going up 10 feet in elevation. You are not doing that on the stair master

It uses an altimeter to count floors so if you’re not actually changing altitude then it won’t register.  There are some quirks (like it will show excess floors if you’re walking outside on a windy day).  But with a stair stepper you’re basically walking in place so it won’t be able to register it.

Yea, I understand that’s how it works but surely if you tell if the activity you’re doing is specifically going up stationary stairs you would think someone was smart enough to make it count as floors

That’s true, after I posted I starting thinking about how it could work by converting # of steps into vertical distance, at least for the specific stair stepper exercise.  Maybe it’s in the works?

Good point.

You may want to add your vote for the Feature Request below, so Fitbit knows there's interest in this. It does seem quite possible to make this happen when the tracker knows it's in StairClimber mode.
