Yesterday I started having a fitbit issue.  I saw last night there was a Fitbit update so I thought I would check in morning to see if problem fixed.  It’s not fixed!!! I receive notifications that I achieved my first 5K.  When I look at watch, it looks good? When I update app, it matches the watch.  When I sync again, it starts generating all different step amounts and watch reflects all the strange amounts.  I found if you sync over and over it eventually doesn’t change so I figured it was the correct steps.  I had to do this all day and just now today.  It let me know I had 5K but I knew I had about 3K shortly before so I knew not correct.  I synced again and again and finally settled on about 4K for correct amount.

I am having a similar issue. This happened Thursday too, but I didn't get screen shots. Steps shown on my watch are over stated although the app is correct, so the data in the background must be OK. Eventually it sorts it self out, but not until I had 3 notifications that I had achieved my goal of 12,000 steps. I will get a 4th when I do achieve that in the next hour. The last one shows that it has finally corrected itself, but then twice more I got notified on my watch that I had reached 12,000 steps, when I am currently on 11,615. I was not allowed to include the photo for some reason, so below are the numbers.

Time        Watch         App

11:00       12,966        6,921

11:19       14,314       8,335

11:36       10,059      10,086

Same issue but I didn’t see it resolving on its own, so I called customer support and they fixed on their end. I literally saw the steps go backwards on my app and watch. Works fine now. I recommend calling customer support- really good experience. They know what this issue is and they know how to fix it

How did you get help? I tried phone and chat and got nowhere.  The only thing I seem to be able to contact is community help

Yesterday I called Fitbit and we worked on this close to an hour.  This morning still not fixed!!!!! Now I have to call with my incident #.
Last night I started putting my phone in my pocket to compare health app with Fitbit app.  Some hours were close.  I decided to keep in pocket all day.  The following screenshots were made at same time.

I would expect all numbers would be less than health because I move my left arm more than in phone.

Hi @Mom2Jacob, @SueBee37, @LauraRoos - see the unreliable step counting bug it is something that needs fixing as it affects many people, giving misleading information.

I chatted today with a Fitbit person.  Here is part of chat:

11:11:34 AM Regine: Upon checking here, I can see that you have an issue with your Fitbit Versa 3 step accuracy and you have tried troubleshooting steps but still the issue persists.

11:11:50 AM Ol Fitbit user: yep

11:11:54 AM Regine: Thank you for confirming!

11:13:52 AM Regine: Just to confirm, you mean that the Fitbit Versa 3 is not tracking the steps accurately or you the steps data on your Fitbit device or app  are inaccurate?

11:17:08 AM Ol Fitbit user: I kind of think the watch is not accurate, but when you sync, the app shows that amount but if you keep syncing, the step amounts change and so does watch until the steps stop changing which appears to be a more logical amount, but who knows what’s really correct

11:17:38 AM Regine: I see. Thank you for the information!

11:19:23 AM Regine: Thanks for letting us know about this issue, as of the moment it is an ongoing issue and most of the Fitbit users are experiencing it. We’re aware of it and are working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.

11:19:24 AM Regine: We're sorry for any trouble. We appreciate your patience and look forward to getting you back on track.

11:19:52 AM Regine: Rest assured that our team is already working on it to fix this as soon as possible.

11:19:57 AM Regine: For the meantime, is there anything else I can assist you with?

11:20:05 AM Ol Fitbit user: is it just versa 3?

11:21:17 AM Regine: No, other devices as well, though not all but mostly most of the users are experiencing it.

I’m starting to trust my Apple health app more with my steps. So it’s so frustrating when the app is more than Fitbit. I feel like I’m getting ripped off with my steps.

iPhone 8, 16.7.10. It’s the Versa 3 which is wrong.

I am having the same problem. I have an iPhone and versa 3. Yesterday I had to finish my goal twice because of fluctuations. Very frustrating. The first time I experienced this was on or about 02/22/2025. I have tried all recommended solutions. Very frustrated.

I have the same issue. After walking about 2 kilometers, I check my Fitbit and it shows me I have done over 5,000 steps. Once I re-synch it with my phone, it will jump down to just over 2000 steps. This happens every day several times. I first noticed it on 22 Feb 2025. I have the Versa 3, and my phone is a Google pixel 7.

I started something yesterday.  I shut off Bluetooth except to update watch amount after watching the amount on watch and health app because I kept it on my body all day.  Today I kept this up and I didn't do the pull down sync, I make sure it's on last screen that has syncing.  I set it there and turn Bluetooth on, it automatically syncs.  I noticed though, the sync actually process twice.  I think it might be the second time that increases the amount I saw on watch.  When I look at today screen, amount is sometimes 5K greater.  I then go to syncing screen and sync again and total goes back to original watch amount. I then close Bluetooth.  I stopped using notifications too, I just keep checking.  So far this work around seems to be working but it's a pain!!

Hey I found something!!!! Yesterday I started using the sync button instead of pull down.  I noticed that when I turned Bluetooth back on the sync started automatically.  The first sync, I noticed the device lock was blank but then it was locked.  It then maybe ran another sync and when I checked the today amount it was about double I had first seen on watch.  I went back to device and hit sync myself.  When I looked at today, the amount perfectly matched my watch amount.  I then turned off Bluetooth and waited for next steps.

Previously the app was correct even thought the watch was wrong. Today both are wrong. Now my app is overstated versus the watch which is also over stated.

The watch seems to settle down by early afternoon. This morning I have been advised twice so far that I have hit my target of 12.000 steps. Now my watch is showing 11,544 steps which is realistic unlike the app which shows 13,647.
