I had (and still have) a Fitbit 1. Had for several years. My husband gave me a Versa for my birthday. The Versa isn't recording the same step count as my Fitbit one. This is very discouraginging. For example, for today, my Fitbit 1 has 8028 steps and my Versa only has 6973

Are you wearing both on the same wrist, or different wrists? Is the Fitbit 1 a wrist worn device or a hip worn device? All of these factors can lead to differences in steps counted.

Fitbit One worn on my bra. Versa on my non-dominant wrist.

I seriously dont know how you can compare a clip on VS a Wrist model.
Yes the one was very accurate. Wrist models will count false steps when moving arms. Its just a fact.
In the end of the day my one has always come close to any wrist model depending on what I did

I can understand that a clip on compare to a wrist worn device would generate different step counts because a wrist worn one would count your arm movements compared to body movement. Obviously, the wrist worn would have a higher count but in your case it’s the opposite as you stated your Fitbit 1 has 8028 and the Versa has only 6973. So that’s a bit odd from the Versa. Usually I read the Versa racking up ridiculous amounts of step but yours seems to be under counting. Have you tried to reset it? I’m not sure if comparing the two would help to see if the Versa is counting accurately, though. Do you have another wrist worn tracker to wear instead?

It is very possible that a wrist model at times will under count or over count.. It looks at arm motions not leg motions.
Chop some food .sit in a rocker, steps will be counted. BTW your One will also count steps in a rocker.
Push a shopping cart or carry a heavy box you will find these steps not counted.
The Fitbit One looks at the natural up down movement of the body that happens during a step, which does seem to be more accurate. However walk across a plush carpet or a grassy field or simply tip toe you will find steps missed.
One suggestion I have is to put the trackers on separate accounts
Friend them, now you can track them in your friends listing. Since this is a seven day running total you will need to do this for at least a month. I found the tracker a stayed pretty close with some days switching possitions several times.
