Still cant sync music t my Fitbit Versa

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

This will be the third time I have posted this topic with absolutely no resolution so let's see what happens this time. I have been trying to sync music to my Fitbit for the past three or four months and have been unsuccessful. I have spoken with chat half a dozen times, they have escalated by email with no resolution, talked to Customer service over the phone two or three times and lastly posted this topic three times. No resolution.

I should be able to sync music, that one of the main things that are advertised with the Fitbit Versa and i haven't been able to do that. Customer service adviced that there is an issue with syncing music because of wifi. Don't you think Fitbit should resolve this issue? or are you just going to take your $200 per Fitbit Versa, put it in the bank and be done with it? Fitbit needs to resolve this issue ASAP. Please and thank you.

Hope this gets resolves ASAP

-Fed up

@reesiepoo  are you using a music app (like Deezer) or try to install your own mp3s? I can't comment on music apps, only transfer of mp3s. I never have had any problem. You need the windows (or iOS) app (Fitbit connect it is called) on a computer, and select transfer music on the Versa - then the connect program will find the Versa on wifi and you just drag mp3 music files to upload. Works flawless for me...

Note that that you need more than 25% charge and since using wifi on the watch drains the battery I always put it in the charger when transferring music!

Can you confirm that you have a working and good wifi connection with your Versa? If so or if not sure, and you have the Fitbit connect program (you may want to install it anyway, just to test) can you confirm that the program finds the Versa.

Same issue.  Been on the phone to Fitbit, but no real resolution there.  Only connects for small amount of time.  Desperately trying to get the music function working before xmas as this is a present for my son. I don't understand why there isn't a fix for it yet.  So many people have this issue.

So over fitbit.  Will not be recommending to anyone.  Ever.

I have Windows 10 on my laptop, and I don't find the Fitbit connect app. What does it look like? Can you email me a screen shot?

@reesiepoo, @EBick  I feel with you. And I agree, in 2018(9) the process of listening to music on a smartwatch should be seamless and integrated with iTunes, Spotity, Youtube, you name it. That is what people use. Right now in reality it is way easier to listen to music via your phone. That said, I am happy enough to listen to music via my Versa, it's great as long as you know how to make it work for you 🙂

As I mentioned, I am not using Deezer (seriously in 2018?, plus I refuse to pay a monthly fee) and can't comment any other music service. I am just downloading mp3s and using the music app on the Versa. There you have to be wary that you cannot start music AFTER you have started say an exercise, you can't even connect your earbuds. You have to connect earbuds first, start the music app first, and only then you select and exercise. Once you have selected an exercise you can get back to music controls but cannot change quickly to another playlist. And this is 2018???  I sort of live with it.

@reesiepoo: here is the help article on fitbit connect/music with download of the program for win10

https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2251   Fitbit connect is kind of useful because it also shows that you actually have a wifi connection to the watch! Remember: put the watch into the charger and check that it has more than 25% charge, otherwise it won't work. Let the community know if the information in the link can help you, and if not why not. For downloading mp3s you NEED the fitbit connect software on your PC (not mobile). The link says mp3, mp4 and wma, but I have had only success with mp3. I download most of my music via youtube. You can find everything you ever need there.

@EBick  can you elaborate to the community exactly what your problem is? Are you trying to use Deezer, or Pandora or downloading mp3's. Have you installed Fitbit Connect? Do you have a working wifi connection? I am sure we can get it to work, but it helps to have details 🙂 My experience is that once it works and are comfortable with the routines and quirks (that presumably all other smartwatches also have) you will be rather happy with it. Also, note that the watch must have more than 25% charge and I strongly recommend to put it in the charger when trying to get music on it, just so it doesn't drain due to the music transfer process.

@lenny4din answer to your questions:

- yes I have a fully charged watch

- no I'm not using Deezer or Pandora, just the "Personal Music" storage option

- when I installed Fitbit Connect the end part of the installing was actually uninstalling it (wtf??)

I actually managed to load a playlist the other day after speaking with someone at Fitbit helpdesk and left it to transfer (literally 2-3 hours ...), now there is no music on my watch and when I press the music icon nothing happens (won't even ask me to transfer music).  I've paired bluetooth headphones and have opened the app after pairing has occured but still no music.  Interestingly when I log in on my phone (Samsung S7 which helpdesk tells me is compatiable) it shows that I have in fact loaded the music (so why can't my watch play it??).

Wifi issue ... yes my wifi is running at 2.4 gigahurtz.  Helpdesk suggested I use the fitbit app on my phone to connect to wifi which I can do .... but I don't know how this helps me connect via my computer.  My computer basically can't find my wifi.  It did at one point ... no idea how ...

Suggestions anyone ...

@EBick

Ok, personal music == mp3s, that's what I use too, so we should be able to figure this out 🙂 I will comment on your post item by item:

>> My computer basically can't find my wifi.

Not 100% sure what you mean as you also mentioned that you (tried to) install Fitbit connect and you can only download that via the internet (for most people that is wifi)

With "my wifi" I assume you mean your home wifi network? Then you have a near useless PC no?

>> I've paired bluetooth headphones and have opened the app after pairing has occured but still no music.

That's correct - the music will not appear just because you have paired/connected headphones. Just for the record: you only have to pair once, the very first time. Then the Versa will remember the headphones and next time you turn them on it will recognize them (my earbuds have a voice that says "connected to one device", not sure if all bluetooth headphones/earbuds have this).

>> when I press the music icon nothing happens (won't even ask me to transfer music).

When you press the Personal Music app on the Versa (the music note symbol) you may need to swipe up a little to see a box that says "Transfer Music". If you don't see it I recommend to uninstall the music app and reinstall it again, you do all this via the mobile app. Pressing Transfer Music essentially turns on the wifi in the Versa.

>> Interestingly when I log in on my phone it shows that I have in fact loaded the music

You mean a kind of purple bar on the top, below the word "Media"? Maybe something is not synced properly between the watch and mobile app. Best to start anew.

Where you see the purple bar (the music tile of the mobile app), further down it says manage wifi networks and if you click on it it should show you your home wifi network that you have used to configure the Versa. It should be something familiar to you!

>> I actually managed to load a playlist the other day after speaking with someone at Fitbit helpdesk and left it to transfer (literally 2-3 hours ...),

Yeah.... I would advise against download long playlists in one go, if it works great, but if something goes wrong ... 😞  I download song by song, gives me better control. Still one and the same playlist. BUT - you can ONLY download music via the Fitbit connect app, so how did you manage that without Fitbit connect????

>> when I installed Fitbit Connect the end part of the installing was actually uninstalling it

I then take it that you fixed this issue and in the end got it installed? But now you say your PC is not connected to wifi/internet anymore? That's no good. Please explain if you managed to install that one playlist (that doesn't play) with a working Fitbit connect when the PC still had a wifi connection? It must be...

No matter what:

  • You NEED to go through the following step-by-step, one step at a time. You cannot hop over a step!
  • you NEED a PC connected to wifi with Fitbit connect installed. Without that, nothing will happen. If you need help with getting the PC back onto wifi, let us know
  • you NEED to have fitbit connect installed
  • The Versa needs to be setup with the correct wifi. When you start fitbit connect it will say (you need to login first) that you need to press the Transfer music, once you do that the text at the top "looking for your watch" will change to that it has found the watch. If you never get to this stage, it won't work.
  • you NEED to have proper working mp3's. I have struggled with this, I had some files that had a mp3 extension, still did not want to play! Let alone mp4 and wma's etc. I can't remember exactly what happened with these files that didn't want to play. Therefore it is better to try one song first (which takes 1-2 minutes to upload) instead of a long playlist. Once 1 song works, you can move to the next step of uploading loads of songs.

Hi,

I also have this problem, I thought it was because I wasn't tech savvy enough to work it all out.

Now I've just finished an update and have lost the "relax" function. So I'm trying to work out how to get that back!!

Mate, thanks for your reply.  I'm giving up.  I'm not a tech wizard, but by no means am I stupid, I've checked all the wifi settings, read a million posts already and tried everything, including your suggestions.

To clarify when I said that "my computer can't find my wifi" I actually meant that the Fitbit app on my computer couldn't find my wifi (there is nothing wrong with my internet connection).

I'll try again in a couple of months once I've forgotten about how awful this experience has been.  Goodluck everyone.  🙂

I actually did manage to load some music to my fitbit but it was a gigantic headache and IMNO not worth the effort. Now i have music on it but have yet to find a headphone that will sync with the device so i can listen to it. If having the music on the fitbit is clogging anything, storage- or usage-wise - i'd love to get rid of it but, if removing it is as big a pain as getting it on there, forget it ... which is basically what I do regarding my fitbit music - forget it ... except from time to time when pushing buttongs i will see a list of my music scrolling (possibly even playing itself) for no particular reason because there is no way to hear it.  As far as syncing my fitbit with a bluetooth earphone, I invariably get messages encourating me to make sure my device is on and within range - wtf - IT IS ON and is six inches close enough???  Music on the fitbit is not what I got it for and certainly not worth the effort.

@lenny4d that link you gave me has a 404 error, just another thing on Fitbit that doesn't work concerning music. Again, you can see from the responses on this post and from many others that we have purchased a watch that was advertised to be able to sync music and it doesn't work. Even in the "once in a blue moon" chance that it does it is a HELLVA headache to get the music on there, but make sure that is all the music you want because trying to modify will be dang near impossible to do. Fitbit, i implore you...Fix this problem ASAP!! "You'll just have to wait until we get a resolution" is not an acceptable answer which is what i was told when i spoke to a customer service rep;. My first Fitbit was a Charge HR and i loved it which is why i decided to upgrade. I paid $200 for this watch, so i'm going to wear it but it is not worth the money i paid for it and for it to not be able to perform the functions we paid good money for it to do is unacceptable. Sadly if someone were to ask me if I would recommend the FitBit Versa, right now my answer as a resounding Hell No!

Disclosure: of course i'm not upset at you, i'm upset that my expensive smartwatch doesn't do what it was manufactured to do.

@reesiepoo  Not sure what happen with the other link that was posted but I think this one will work for you.  https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2251/?q=hpw+to+listen+to+music+on+my+versa&l=en_...

For a Windows 10 computer, you want the Fitbit app NOT the Fitbit Connect app which is applicable for Mac and Windows 8.1.  I'm assuming that you can connect your computer and your Versa to your home wifi and that the connection is over the slower 2.4 ghz band.  Make sure that your computer and your watch are connected to the exact same wifi.  In my house I have both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz and, because the signal is weak, I have a booster in the house and a second wifi hub.  Therefore, I have lots to choose from but the music transfer will only work if I ensure that my watch and my computer are connected to the same band at the same time.

Also, make sure that every song in your playlist is a song that you have actually purchased and wasn't downloaded from a streaming service like Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora for offline listening.  That music contains Digital Rights Management (DRM) tags that prevent the music from being further transferred after you've downloaded it to your computer (a music industry safeguard).  There are ways to strip the DRM tag off but 1) I don't know how to do that and 2) it's illegal.  I think if you have even one song in the playlist that you don't own, it can hang up the transfer.

For me, every time the computer went to sleep, the transfer stopped.  I had to temporarily set my computer so that it wouldn't sleep.

Music transfer works for me every time I want to do it.  There's no magic to it.  There are some very specific steps in the set up that are required and there's no wiggle room in those steps.

Good Luck.  I hope you are successful.

@EBickSure, I understand. I know how frustrating it is to feel 'stuck' in something that must be so easy but feels so complicated. I guess you mean the fitbit app for win10 and then under Versa --> Wifi settings --> it never managed to find the wifi. Note that ONLY 2.4Ghz wifi networks can be used, and your PC/tablet must use the same!  But I appreciate you want to drop the whole thing dead now. Good luck in the future!

@reesiepoo"that link you gave me has a 404 error, just another thing on Fitbit that doesn't work concerning music"  For some reason the link got malformed when I inserted it in the text and I forgot to check and re-edit myself. Sorry. The correct link (now I have tested it) is : https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2251

As for @EBick above I appreciate your pain, been there - done that 😞 It's terrible to be stuck on something that in reality should be simple. Usually it is, just that it is so difficult to figure out what exactly to do. The community feels with you all!
Yes, as @kcronin rightly points out, for win10 you need the app for win10. I can't comment how transferring music via win10 works as I think win10 is the mother of all sw disasters, so I stay clear from it.

@Cricketnoel

>> except from time to time when pushing buttongs i will see a list of my music scrolling (possibly even playing itself)

No it won't play if there is no bluetooth headphone connected Smiley Happy

>> As far as syncing my fitbit with a bluetooth earphone, I invariably get messages encourating me to make sure my device is on and within range - wtf - IT IS ON and is six inches close enough???

Not to ask a stupid question, but did you actually put your earbuds/headphone in pairing mode? What do you see on your Versa under settings --> Bluetooth the top line should show if you have paired an audio device,  and there should be a big button that says "+ audio device". When you click this you need to also put your headphone in pairing mode (not just turn it on!!!), and then it should find it. Once it is paired, the Versa will auto-connect to the headphones just when you turn them on (although it may take a try or two, and it only works when no other app is running!). Make sure to not have your phone or a PC in the vicinity as they may interfere with the bluetooth signal!.

>> I actually did manage to load some music to my fitbit but it was a gigantic headache and IMNO not worth the effort.

As @kcronin writes : "Music transfer works for me every time I want to do it.  There's no magic to it." The same for me. Am not exactly sure why it was such a headache for you, but I admit that it isn't a simple "swipe and play" process. And that it could be and should be a lot simpler. Agree.

i just got off the phone with customer support again, they said that my issue is noted as escalated, their team is working on an update for us to be able to download to fix the issue BUT we STILL have to wait for a resolution. There is NO ETA on a resolution, we, unfortunately just have to wait. Again, unacceptable but i got no other choices but to wait. They got enough ppl who are pissed bc of the issue and won't be recommending versa's because of it. Hopefully, that will see how much this could potentially be costing the Fitbit brand. Or at least start taking our feedback and frustrations with our purchases seriously enough to have a quick resolution.

So I got mine to work and here is what I had to do. I could not get it to sync with my iPhone not matter what I did. so I got on the Fitbit website and did an online chat. They confirmed my watch had not done a sync for 29 days and was not syncing with phone. We did the sync using my iPad which then had to update the Versa. After the update (which takes an hour) all I need to do is sync with my phone. Doing the online chat very helpful as they can also see if the watch is connecting or not at their end.

i did not put any links in my comment - they just come up automatically - some kind of hack sees a key word and throws in a link to something they want to sell - none of my doing - i suggest never clicking on randome links in a format like this.

Hello everyone sorry to hear that you can't add music to your Versa. As several users have pointed out, you will need the Fitbit software on your computer to transfer music. For a Windows 10 Pc you will need the Fitbit app and for a Mac computer you will need the Fitbit connect software. Both can be found here. If you have already tried the process and failed then try unistalling and reinstalling the software, restart your computer and retry transferring music again. Make sure that the Versa is fully charged and if you haven't done try updating the firmware. If you don't have any of the latest firmware (ver. 19 or Ver 24, both are the same just a different process to release them) then try a factory reset to help update your device to any of these versions, just be aware that you will need to set it up again after this.

Let me know how it goes!

It's easy to understand why people are having problems transferring their music.  I've been able to transfer both using Deezer and my own MP3's but the process is poorly designed and clunky.  I still haven't been able to transfer Windows Media playlists.  As others have pointed out you have to use the desktop Fitbit app, you can't do it through the web portal.  Connecting via WiFi is slow and often fails, requiring a restart.  Seriously it looks like a 12 year old wrote the code for this feature.  That same 12 year old probably also made the decision to use Deezer instead of Spotify.  The capability to play music from the Versa so I don't have to take my phone to the gym is why I bought it in the first place, only to find out it was poorly designed and implemented.  I am very disappointed.

Follow up from my previous post about problems with syncing music. I tried to do a factory reset on my Versa, and it would not turn back on. Total blank screen, even on the charger. Contacted Customer Support and they are sending me a new Verda to replace this one that has been giving me so many problems. I am hoping that this also fixes my ability to sync my music. We'll see what happens in 5-7 business days!
