I have some strange damage to the underside of my versa 2 after wearing it for 4 days. It's like an imprint of my skin on part of the back plate. I wore it in the shower this morning but can't think of anything I have come in contact with that could have done it.

Do not sit & wait out on this. Start warranty return 'faulty goods' TODAY.
By far easiest route is go back to retail as opposed to going through FiTBit warranty returns.
This is off personal experience:
My then new Versa at 2 weeks old May 2018? Cosmetic damage. Watch still functional. Both FitBit telephone & chat support told me that I had to wait out on the cosmetic fault to become an operational error.
Caveat: When it did October/ November the same year & 5/6 months later?
Even though Versa was still inside FitBit warranty? Any cosmetic damage generating a fault is seen by FitBit support as 'user defined caused by daily wear & tear ' & invalidates the warranty.
No matter how much I tried to explain & that I had done as asked of & by FitBit support.
Now, I will give phone support the credit it is due as this week I was able to 'get through to the right person' & I was finally heard. He managed to find the footnote on my account that stated I had indeed done as asked in May 2018 & that in October 2018 'when watch stopped functioning correctly' I called & asked for a warranty replacement.
It took nearly 16 months to get the unit replaced. I was right on Fence Apple watch 3 or 5 (release date 20 Sept) as both meet my requirements. All that held me back? Apple watch short battery life.
Simplified: If you can retail warranty return for replacement or full refund? Just do it. Just do it and save your self tons hassle stress & worry!
