Tracker update won’t download, can’t recognize wifi

My app says an update is available for my tracker. When I click on download, it takes me into a new screen where it says it is looking for wifi. My phone is already connected to a working wifi. It never passes this stage of searching for wifi... not sure what is wrong with the app or the update?

The versa is sufficiently charged. Do I need to have it plugged to anything to do the download? There were no instructions to do that.

While your device may be aware of your network because you told it during initial setup, I am quite sure it is not always connected - mine isn't. And if I connect to wi-fi without the device actively charging, the connection will not last for more than a few minutes - a battery conservation measure on FitBit's part - wi-fi sucks up the juice as compared to bluetooth.

That is one of the reasons why you will normally see mention in firmware updates to place the device on the charging cable before going forward.

That being said, although I am nearly always within 10 feet of my wireless router when taking updates, I am not always able to perform the updates under wi-fi and have to use bluetooth instead.

I hope this helps - welcome to the boards.
