I think it is totally pointless that the watch vibrates to notify me I have a notification while I am actively using my phone. Not only it's annoying, but if it didn't notify it would save battery as well.

I think your suggestion is great and saw that you have already made a request about it (Notification vibration should be muted while phone's screen is on). I hope it receives the necessary attention and can be implemented.
