Unable to get my phone to sync with my versa. Pointless to have a $200 watch just to measure my heart rate. If someone has any pointers. Please help

Are you able to go without your phone and it still track your gps?  I have a watch now that does that but other features that are not as nice as the versa. Just wondering my options before making the change. I just bought my note 9 and don't want to run with it if I do not have to. Fossil Gen 4 vs Fitbit Versa i want to track my yoga to running and be able to go with out my phone in hand.

You need your phone for GPS.
