Unable to update Versa 3 firmware

Do everything as stated in instructions. Update lasts about 5 seconds, X appears on watch. Phone app states update done. But continue to get

Do you see the pending firmware banner on the app? When you try updating your watch does it only take 5 seconds? Have you checked help article: Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

when I get the banner on the fitbit app and respond to the install, it
takes about 5 seconds and the X appears on the watch and the fitbit app on
the phone acknowledges the update has completed, but the request for
firmware update reappears on the watch face
