Versa 2 - Firmware Update 35.72.1.9 - May 25, 2021

Against my better judgement, on Sunday May 22, 2021 I updated my Versa 2.

It was early in the morning and hadn't had my cup of coffee. I unplugged my phone and watch from their chargers and walked towards the kitchen counter with phone and watch in my hands. I opened the Fitbit app and saw the update banner on the top of the screen. I told myself, both my phone and versa 2 are fully charge, lets update the firmware while I make coffee. BIG MISTAKE.

I want to clarify, my Versa 2 was working flawlessly prior to this update. The battery lasted about 5 days. Heart Rate monitoring was working and step counts were accurate. No complains.

The update was completed, drank my coffee, put on my watch and walked out the door to do some yard work. About two hours later, looked at my watch to see what time it was. To my surprise the FITBIT logo was in the display.

Since then it has been random chaos. Couldn't get it to work. Couldn't get it to soft reset (pressing side button for 10 sec.). Finally after 15 minutes I was able to restart it by pressing the side button for more than 30 seconds. It seem to be work fine... sometime after 6:00 pm I noticed that it wouldn't turn on.
Weird, battery died? I put it to charge. After a couple on minutes on the charger, I noticed the display telling me the battery needed charging. I left it charging that night.

Sunday morning, I unplug my watch. It doesn't want to turn on. I tinker with it for 15 minutes and walk away frustrated. It won't turn on. Monday I looked at it for another 15 minutes, and start hitting youtube and the community posts for help. Monday night I tried everything I found on the web. No luck.

This morning I broke down and contacted Fitbit support, while waiting for a reply I plug in my watch just incase they ask me to do it. While responding to their questions, if I am using the original charging cables, have I tried other usb charger adapters, plug it in different outlets, and so on... the representative asked me if I could see the green light under the phone. To my surprise, it was on and charging. I told them that it was charging and that it was on. They asked if I needed more assistance and ended the session.
I left my phone on the charger and was able to sync with my phone. I monitored the charging progress and before 11am was fully charged. Proceeded to put it on and after a few seconds my heart rate monitor started working... Happy days here we come...
Wait, not so fast... two minutes later I felt the watch vibrate, and notice the fitbit logo staring at me, again. Watch turned off and turned on by itself. But a couple seconds later heart rate monitor started working. Took a couple steps and my step count added them to the count. Walked to a coworkers office and watch was off again. This time I had to press the side button to get turn it on. Heart Rate monitor worked and step count worked. By the time I walk to my office, the watch was off again. This time I proceed to turn it on and then turn it off going thru settings/about/shutdown.
I turn on the device, and the heart monitor stopped working, my step count has stopped working. And it continuously turns itself off after the screen goes blank. I turned it back on changed the Screen Wake to manual (Button). This change has stopped it from turning off automatically. But my heart rate monitoring is not working and my step count is not working. But it does sync with my phone.

HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS FIRMWARE UPDATE?
CAN FITBIT RE-RELEASE THE PREVIOUS UPDATE?

Well this is exactly what happened to my Versa last year!!! But I was just out of warranty so I had basically no luck.  We bought a new charger, tried everything possible...nothing! It worked absolutely perfect until a firmware update and then bam...that was it!!! Done..gone. I literally cried.  It died, then we shut down for c-19...and the rest of 2020 took over....🥺

I now was gift a versa 2! I just synced it, and am hooking it up but something is amiss already and I'm so nervous!!!...the clock face things won't sync and everytime I try to use the Fitbit it says in red letters error see device😭😭😭

This one was a gift..I have no receipt or anything...why do they insist on making them so frustrating with the constant updating...if it's not broken....leave it alone!

Yep mine died during the update this morning.  It was plugged into the charging cable at the time and seemed to be updating ok but the screen went off partway through the install and hasn't turned back on.   Only 16 months old, very annoyed.  My versa 1 died after about 6 months and now my versa 2.  Not a good look for fitbit.

Does anyone know what’s changed in this update? As usual (like the last 4 updates)  there are no release notes and the “learn more” link goes to a page not found message.

@B3LLA33 So why wouldn't you ask the gifter when and where it was bought? Hard to believe people gift electronics without receipts. Everything works perfectly and warranties or support are never needed, right?

All I needed was Month/year/retailer for my warranty. I didn't need the actual receipt.

I have the same issue and my watch isn't turning on since then. I tried all the troubleshooting steps you mentioned in your post but nothing is working. The watch is still dead 😞
