Versa 2 GPS distance is inaccurate

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My wife and I have the Versa 2 and the distances vary greatly between the two watches. I have everything set to match my stats do not sure what is going on. Is always been that way, recently we did an 8 mile hike together, hers matched the distance on the markers as well as the the trail guide and mine showed I went 9.5 miles, so a full mile and a half further. We started the exercise at the same time and waited to both linked to gps. This weekend we did a lot of walking and another person we were with had an Apple Watch and his matched my wife’s steps and distance (really close) and mine was way longer. Any ideas on what I can do?

 Thanks

Hi there, @AJD120. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your Versa 2 in comparation to your wife's. I understand where your concern is coming from.

Before anything else, I'd like to clarify that it's normal that you see a difference when you are comparing your data with another person, this is because Fitbit devices record your data based on your personal information (age, gender, weight and height).

If you feel that your step count and distance are inaccurate, confirm that the following are set correctly in the Fitbit app:

Fitbit Versa 2 calculates distance by multiplying your walking steps by your walking stride length and multiplying your running steps by your running stride length. We estimate your stride lengths using your height and sex. Track one or more runs using on-board or connected GPS, we evaluate that data to automatically update your running stride length. For best results, run at a comfortable pace for at least 10 minutes.

However, if you prefer to measure your walking and running stride lengths yourself and enter them manually, see How do I measure and adjust my stride length?

Note that when you're tracking an activity with GPS, Fitbit calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, the tracker will calculate distance using steps and stride length as described above until a GPS signal is found.

I understand that there will be differences, but if it really uses gps to measure distance why would the distance for a hike taken at same time together vary by more than a mile and a half. I knew it has been different for awhile but actually seems to be getting more inaccurate over time.
