Versa 2 and I phone not showing same number of steps

For the last few days, the Fitbit app on my phone has been adding random extra steps. Yesterday about 3000, tonight about 250. 
have tried rebooting both phone and watch. 
tried switching Bluetooth on and off and have disconnected my versa 2 from my phone and reconnected. 
still being silly and battery draining much faster than before.

Thank you for taking the time to share the details regarding your Versa 2. Thank you for trying to fix it on your own. 

Please confirm if you are using Mobile track. It is a service that allows you to count steps using your phone even if you forget to wear your Fitbit. You can "unpair" Mobile Track from your account.  On your Fitbit app go to the upper left corner, on the phone and device icon. Click on your phone icon and on the 3 dots and choose "unpair".
