My versa two is telling me that I'm burning 2000 calories daily, as in when I wake up I have no steps done but yet normally over 1000 calories.

I have reset the watch but of no help

Has anyone an idea what is wrong

It might be ok

As well as tracking calories burned through activity your fitbit also tracks your BMR calories. These are the calories you burn just keeping your body alive (even when asleep). They are calculated from your profile settings for age, height, weight etc so you needn't be wearing your fitbit to get them. What you are seeing in the morning includes the total BMR calories burned since midnight.

@SteveH is correct. Your total calories for the day include BMR (the keep you alive calories) and exercise/activity calories that are burned above that, whether it be dedicated exercise or just a bit of walking around the grocery store or back yard.

I woke up this morning at 6:00 am with 412 calories burned, all but seven calories from BMR.

At the time I started this post (7:30 am) I had burned only 42 calories above BMR - total calorie burn is 548.

Unlike some other fitness tracker manufacturers, FitBit does not separate resting and active calories, giving you only total calories burned, which is probably what is confusing/troubling you both.

My total calorie burn yesterday was 2,655.

  • 1,620 BMR calories (as Steve said, this is a value based on sex, age and weight - 68 year old male weighing 182 pounds).
  • 652 calories above BMR from two separate one-hour treadmill sessions (including BMR - 866 calories).
  • 383 calories above BMR for activities around the house - pulling weeds, sweeping what used to be a pool deck and is now a deck around artificial turf with palms and flowers and general "man of the house" things, aka "Honey Do's" (I'm retired) and general movement around the house.

FitBit would report just the 2,655 total calories for the day and if I had exercise records to view, the total calories burned, including BMR, during the exercise.

Apple, as well as some other fitness tracker manufacturers, reports total  "Resting Energy" and total "Active Energy" for the day. And for exercises, calories burned above BMR as two separate classifications, "Active Calories" and "Total Calories", apparently mirroring FitBit's "Active Zones". In two treadmill sessions yesterday totaling those 652 calories above BMR, I was only credited with 438 "active calories". And, of the two hours total physically on the treadmill, only 65 "exercise" minutes (50 in the first and 15 in the second).

Good luck to you both and welcome to the boards.
