Versa 2 heart rate monitor stopped working

The HR monitor on my Versa 2 stopped working. For about a week it would work maybe 30% of the time, and now it doesn’t work at all. The light does not turn on no matter what. I’ve factory reset it a couple of times, and I’ve also tried the troubleshooting I saw elsewhere on the site. I’ve only had it about 8 months!

Hi there, @charliexdawn. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Versa 2 before reaching out. I understand where your concern is coming from.

In addition to the steps you've tried so far, I'd like you to perform the following steps below for this situation:

  • Switch the Heart Rate settings from On to Off and manually sync your Versa 2. To switch the heart rate settings on your Versa 2, from the main screen of your watch, swipe left until you see "Settings", next swipe up until you see "Heart Rate" and switch it to Off.
  • Once it's done, manually sync your Versa 2. To do so, open the Fitbit app, tap on the Account icon, tap on your watch's image and tap on "Sync Now"
  • Next, switch it from Off to On and manually sync your Versa 2 once again.
  • Once it's done, restart your Versa 2 once again. For instructions, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
  • Next, confirm that your tracker is snug on your wrist (the lights shouldn't be visible) I also recommend when you're not exercising, wear the tracker just above the wrist bone.

Hope that helps.

I had this exact issue where the heartrate setting was on but the green light would not turn on (was not tracking heart rate). This fixed my issue though! Thank you!

Edit:

Unfortunately, this only worked for about 45 mins. My Versa 2 heart rate lights are off again.

I am having issues with this fitbit heart rate monitor as well. Lights don't even come on anymore. Tried everything listed above, worked for about 30 min and now it won't work again. Seeing it is a common issue I'm wondering if fitbit does this to make us upgrade? That's the reason I won't switch to Apple.

Tried to chat with support and chat was closed automatically 2 times while I was typing!

Then made the phone call and he tried to walk me through what's listed above, told him that didn't work and he said to wait for an email from support, about warranty. Still waiting...

If this feature isn't fixed/under warranty I will not be purchasing any more fitbit products.

This is my exact issue as well. I am out of warranty and Fitbit told me there is nothing I can do without purchasing a new watch. I am very frustrated, and will not buy another watch. My current watch is only just over 2 years old.

This best answer didn't work for me either. If you check other postings, suddenly this seems to be a very common problem with the Versa 2. Support told me that my HR sensor has probably failed, but it's odd that it's given up for so many of us at the same time!!!

I'm with the guy who's blaming the latest firmware update .... but support deny that is an issue.

It is definitely very strange how many people are all having the same issue at the same time. It makes it seem like Fitbit did it on purpose…(like how apple slows down products)

Unfortunately, I am having another issue on top of this issue. My Fitbit will not sync  I keep having to forget the device and reconnect.

Same as before, the Fitbit support can’t do anything so they gave me a coupon for me next Fitbit purchase.

Isn't apple know for doing the same thing?

Unfortunately yes.

Same here....heart rate and sleep tracker quit working around the 18th....so many people are having the same problem but yet they wont admit that it was the last update.  So frustrating....wont be buying another fitbit for sure!

If we are all having this issue and it’s a firmware issue, a new update would probably fix our problem! Hopefully this update comes soon. I don’t think Fitbit would send an update that intentionally ruins the versa 2.

After contacting support, trying more incantations than I can remember, and also monitoring this group for a couple of weeks, hoping in vain for some indication of a fix or firmware rollback, I've now given up and switched to a different brand of watch. My Versa 2 also stopped recording regular step data in the meantime, and kept only the total, so it became little more than the cheapest pedometer. I've now exported my 8 years of fitbit data and moved on.

Similar issues with other types of products always led to an announcement of "please wait, we're on to it", so if it is a firmware issue then perhaps the last one "bricked" many of the sensors, Either way, I see no point in waiting for a firmware fix - their stated strategy now is to move you to their next expendable watch.
