Versa 2 is completely dead and won't charge

I have a versa 3 that's several years old. A couple of times over the last few weeks it's randomly shut down, but it's started back up right away and it's otherwise been working fine. Today it died - no surprise because I knew the battery was low. But this thing will not charge up. Does anyone know if this is more likely to be a fault with the charger or the watch itself?
