Versa 2 is counting too many steps

Today was the first time that I have noticed that my step count is way too high.  I live in an apartment and by the time I left for work, my Fitbit Versa 3 said I had walked over  12,000 steps.  That is not possible.  I may get 12,000 steps by the time I go to bed - not in the first 2 hours of my day.  I have also restarted my Fitbit.  Thank you.

Hi there, @Sopadreis. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Versa 2 before reaching out.

I'm wondering if you're using another app connected to your Fitbit account that will add more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

For additional information, see Does the wrist I wear my device on affect the accuracy? and What can I do if my step count seems inaccurate?

If you want to negate the extra steps, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

By the way, I've moved your post to the Other Versa Smartwatches board for organization purposes.

Hope that helps.

My Versa counts 2000-7000 extra steps every day. This can not be explained by arm movement or other fitbit devices. I hav tried troubleshooting in every way; turning on and off, deleting etc...

There is a fault in your product.

I would, very much, like a solution for this that does not put the blame on me as a user, as seems to be common in this forum. Thank you

Yes me too. Brand new versa 2, first time using it Xmas day, so did very little walking, being at home all day. Step count 3605, in no way possible. Running latest software, no additional apps installed

I've never had any trouble with my Versa 2. Now today I'm searching Google to find out why all of the sudden after walking only two miles this morning my Versa 2 says I walked 75,750 steps.

It happens a lot to me. I have NO confidence in the way that this thing counts my steps. Lats night I charged my Versa 3 and when I went to put it on I already had  33,744 steps. I tired all the thing they have put on this site and none of it worked. Swapped wrist, restarted, factory reset, reset the stride settings, removed the device completely and reinstalled, uninstalled the watch then uninstalled the program, reinstalled the program the reinstalled the watch. It randomly gives me thousands and thousands of steps. Yesterday me did 4 miles it was working great,, I check it periodically to monitor my heart rate.. it was working fine,, then and about three quarters of the way I went to check and all of the sudden it gave me 44, 311 steps!!! I actually watched it go from 5315 to 44,311 right before my eyes!!!! I'm like...What the heck!!! This thing works great...except for counting steps. Fitbit...you really need to come up with a fix for this...not just keep telling us to restart, remove, and reinstall. This IS A VERY REAL PROBLEM!!! PLEAS LISTEN!!!!
