Versa 2 is crashing when trying to check my steps

Recently my fitbit versa 2 went all glitchy when I try to see the step count (on the watch)- it just flicks for second and shows 'Today' with the blue fitbit logo, then returns itself back to the clock screen. It is just fine on the app, but I'd like to be able to see how many steps I take without having to check my phone for it- if I wanted it that way I wouldn't bother using the fitbit. How do I fix this glitchy problem on the watch? I have tried turning it off and on, making sure the watch is not on 'always on', changing clock faces but nothing works. Help please, thank you!
