Hi there, @kezbeveridge. Welcome to the Community Forums.
As @MMaxwell has mentioned, the value that you see on your Versa 2 when after setting it up is your estimated calorie burn for the day so far.
We estimate your calorie burn based on your age, gender, height and weight. You burning calories even when you are sleeping or just sedentary. When you are not wearing your Fitbit then it is estimate your passive calories burned. That is what you see on the Fitbit app after the set up.
It then populates your profile with this calorie burn back for six months or so to give you a sensible baseline against which to compare your future calorie burn once your watch starts tracking your exercise and adding exercise calories to your BMR calories. What you're seeing is an expected behavior and the calorie counts re individualized to you.
For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity? and How accurate are Fitbit devices?
Please note there's no way you can get rid of your BMR.

You burn calories simply by existing! Your body needs them to just keep things pumping, helping muscles move, etc. That's why caloric intake is estimated about 1800 to 2000 a day, because that's how much you naturally burn by simply being alive. Your fitbit tracks that estimated burn on top of what you burn by being physically active to give you an accurate idea of how much you're burning every day and to help you figure out a reasonable caloric intake.
