Versa 2 is tracking steps even when I'm not wearing it

This is a brand new Versa 2. For the two mornings I have had it set up, it has measured steps without me wearing it. Any tips or settings I need to know about to fix this problem?

@srco14 Thanks for stopping by in the Community Forums. We‘re taking your comments and sentiments in regards to our products and services into consideration.

As a first approach, I'd suggest you to check if MobileTrack is causing the extra steps. I've seen many users (including myself) who had have this issue and at the end we realize that MobileTrack was the one adding steps while we were sleeping. It would worth the try to double check this.

Nonetheless, if the above doesn't describe your issue whatsoever, I recommend to contact our team back so they can continue assisting you.

Hi there, @ggags58. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your Versa 2. I understand where your concern is coming from.

Do you have another app connected to your Fitbit account that will add more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

For additional information, see Does the wrist I wear my device on affect the accuracy? and What can I do if my step count seems inaccurate?

Hope that helps.

The Versa 2 is a piece of garbage. My (replacement) Versa 2 regularly counts 7-9K steps while I'm asleep. Yesterday, it counted 87,000 steps while I was sleeping. Because it is 4 weeks out of warranty, Fitbit will do nothing for me. (sorry, they'll offer me 35% off a new device). Sadly, you have bought a piece of utter garbage for which you will find horrid support. So sorry you've joined this dreadful club.

How would MobileTrack be causing extra steps while I'm sleeping if the phone is lying MOTIONLESS ON THE NIGHTSTAND???? If you're acknowledging that MobileTrack is the PROBLEM then isn't it FITBIT's responsibility to fix the KNOWN PROBLEM? Are you saying that if I go back to support and let them know that one of their community moderators confirms that the problem is yours, they will repair or replace my malfunctioning device? So far the only "help" the "team" has offered is a discount off a new device. I don't want to buy a new device. I want the device I own to function as designed. What @MarreFitbit do you suggest?
