Versa 2 not connecting unless app is running

My Versa 2 does not connect to GPS unless I have the app open. As soon as I close the app or lock my phone it loses connection. I have all notifications on and this does not help! Can anyone help me with a fix? I've tried all the usual troubleshooting eg turning Bluetooth on/off and turning device on/off and resyncing etc!
