Versa 2 stopped tracking my heart rate

I love using my Fitbit Versa 2 Every day and hardly take it off but for some reason it suddenly stopped showing my heart rate. The green light is coming on the bottom and my body presence is detected by the watch but it just won’t show my pulse rate. Has been going on for four days and I really don’t want to have to buy a new one since everything else works fine.

Hi there, @FaultFinder. Thanks for stopping by in the Community Forums and sharing the details about the issue with your Versa 2. I understand where your concern is coming from.

As a first approach, I'd recommend following the steps below:

  • Switch the Heart Rate settings from On to Off and manually sync your watch. To switch the heart rate settings on your watch, from the main screen of your watch, swipe left until you see "Settings", next swipe up until you see "Heart Rate" and switch it to Off.
  • Once it's done, manually sync your Versa 2. To do so, open the Fitbit app, tap on the Account icon, tap on your Versa 2's image and tap on "Sync Now"
  • Next, switch it from Off to On and manually sync your watch once again.
  • Once it's done, restart your watch.
  • Next, confirm that your tracker is snug on your wrist (the lights shouldn't be visible) We also recommend when you're not exercising, wear the tracker just above the wrist bone.

For more information, see What factors can affect my heart-rate reading on my Fitbit device?

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! It turns out that heart rate tracking was off in settings. I’ve turned it on now and the watch works just fine!

Thanks for your responses. I’ve tried everything you’ve recommended. I’ve even tired each of these steps on multiple days, just to make sure all of my hardware / software was properly updated. Nothing is working. - I can’t monitor my heart rate or sleep, of course, since it’s dependent on HR - these are both more important to me than the steps tracking. Thank you.

Heart rate stops working is a common problem that Fitbit won't address or admit that it's a fault of theirs.

Check the forums. Lots of complaints.

Seems to be an issue with many trackers and smartwatches, my wife has had that same problem with her Apple watch 5 and 6. I had it stop tracking my heart rate on my Versa 2 for several seconds up to as long as a minute however I have not had that issue with my Fitbit Charge 5. Both Apple and Fitbit told us to make the bands tighter, clean the sensors and even reset our devices. I do believe that the tech will become more efficient and reliable in the near future.

I too am having the same issue. I have done everything you have said to do several times including several factory resets. It works for about 30 minutes then nothing again. I’m constantly resetting my versa 2. I think there should be another firmware update to the versa 2 instead of several  app updates.

Hi, unfortunately I too have been experiencing this issue for some time now. I have followed all the suggested steps on multiple occasions, cleaned the sensors on the back with rubbing alcohol as suggested in @AlvaroFitbit’s post on 06-13-2018. I even went back to factory settings but my heart rate and sleep are still not being tracked. I’m at loss what to do next to fix the issue. Can you please help? I bought the watch in July 2020.

I have tried this and mine is still not working, and hasn’t for months

Same here!

The heart rate monitor stopped working after I updated the firmware to 35.72.1.19

According to the repair shop where I brought it to get checked, it is a very common issue with the Versa 2 after this particular update.

I wish Fitbit would do more than simply offer a discount for a new watch since mine was working perfectly fine before that firmware update...
