Versa 2 stopped working after getting wet

Hi all,

Looking for advice on how to handle water damage for my Versa 2.

In the 14 months I’ve had my device I’ve never worn it in the shower or while swimming.

Then 2 days ago, I got caught outside in the rain. It took me less than 2 minutes to get back to my car but the damage was done. My Fitbit is now incredibly glitchy (opens random menus and apps) and I cannot swipe away from the main screen, though it’ll randomly do it on its own.

But most of all I’m frustrated that this “water resistant Fitbit” was destroyed by 2 minutes of light rain. So glad I never wore it in the water, as advertised, because I now know it would have been destroyed.

Any suggestions on how to attempt to repair the water damage or how to handle a Fitbit that is now outside of the original warranty period?

Hi there, @NebulasAndNovas. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Versa 2. I understand where your concern is coming from and how you must be feeling.

Please note Versa 2 is water-ressistant to 50 meters. However, water resistance may diminish over time and can be negatively impacted by any of the following:

  • Dropping the device.
  • Exposing the device to soaps, shampoos, conditioners, perfume, insect repellent, lotions, or sunscreen.
  • Exposing the device to high-velocity water (for example, during water sports).

If your watch got wet, it’s important to take it off and
dry it well before putting it back on. If your watch has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser (like Cetaphil) and dry it with a lint free-cloth. Be sure to follow our Wear and Care instructions to keep your device clean.

If your watch is still not responding after taking the above into consideration, the best way to get help for this problem is to chat with us online or give us a call. Click here to get connected.

I had a similar issue. I’d researched using a Fitbit in water and told it was ok up to 50m. I’ve always taken mine off for swimming but wanted to try the swim setting on the exercise tracker as I’d struggled lately with exercising. I do regret it. It’s now gone weird then after I left it to dry won’t switch on or do anything. Contacted support and they told me as it’s just out of warranty they can only offer me a discount. It’s going to cost me over £70 to replace all because I followed they’re advice on the website that to was ok to wear. Really disappointed with this having been a loyal customer for nearly ten years.
