Versa 2 stopped working and got hot to touch

My versa 2 suddenly got very hot to the touch and stopped working.  It was so hot I had to take it off because I was afraid I would get burned.  It was fine one second and dead the next.  It's completely unresponsive now and nothing happens when I put it on the charger either.  Has anyone else had this happen?  I assume it's toast and will contact customer service as it's less than a year old.  Just curious what may have caused this.
