Versa 2 stuck on static Fitbit logo, holding the power button doesn't help

Hey,

My Versa 2 is constantly on the Fitbit logo and it doesn't do anything: it doesn't connect to my phone anymore, and it doesn't show the time. I've tried holding the only button for 10 seconds, for 15 seconds, for 20 seconds, for 30 seconds, but nothing fixes it. It's just the logo any nothing else. I've tried connecting it to my laptop with the usb cable but that doesn't do anything either.

This seems to have happened after I removed the "Calendar" app (and a few others like an altitude meter) from my device because I didn't use them. I did make my own watch face, but nothing else out of the ordinary. Everything worked fine before I did this.

I will try draining the battery (there is no other option because I can't turn it off either) and restarting it after that, but I'm afraid this will take a few days (because I charged the battery yesterday and it lasts quite well) so any advice on how to reset it would be very appreciated.

Update: The battery (I recall it was at 85% this morning) was drained within 4 hours. I tried charging it a little and booting it again, but it's still stuck on the Fitbit logo. I tried disabling my phone's bluetooth to see if that was interfering, but that didn't seem to help anything either.

So after a lot of searching online and reading all manuals I could find, I finally found a way to factory reset the device without software:

1. Hold the button for about 8 seconds until the Fitbit logo disappears

2. Release the button somewhere between 1 and 2 seconds (it took me several attempts to get this right)

3. Hold the button until the device vibrates.

At this point it enters factory reset mode, but I just got a big "Data not cleared. Sync & try again" error. So I searched some more and found a way to fix that issue:

1. Open the Fitbit app on your phone and unlink the device
2. Open bluetooth settings and make sure the device is not linked anymore

3. Do the first set of steps again to enter factory reset mode

Now it will probably show the same error, but that's a good sign(?). Now link the devices again

1. Open the Fitbit app and add a new device

2. Enter the numbers displayed

At this point the battery showed up and I got a white instead of blue Fitbit logo on my Versa 2, so it already looked like some progression. However, there was no time, no notification menu and no apps (or settings). To solve this, I had to:

1. Force kill the Fitbit app (on Android via the info menu)

2. Re-open the app

3. Go to profile > devices > versa 2

4. Connect it to your wifi network

5. Go back to the main menu and click "Update firmware"

Since it was still drained from the rebooting, I had to put it on the charger to reach 25% before I was able to do the update. After that, I clicked on "update" and after a while I got another "Installation failed. Try again later". However, it seemed to work just fine. I got the time and settings back, so I was happy.

From that point on, it's just a matter of setting up everything as it was. Interestingly enough, my old apps were somehow still saved somewhere, because I could just press "Update" in the app instead of finding them back in the store. Sideloading my own watch face worked as well, so I call it fixed.

I really wish Fitbit would put the factory reset procedure in the manual (I could only find the software reset there, which didn't work) and make the (non-)errors clearer.
